flute bowl

I was there today, wasnt great given the shitty icy conditions everywhere, but it looks really nice, and you can hike everywhere around it. Its like a 10 min walk to get there, but once youre at the bottom of the bowl you have to hike like 40 min uphill to get back on the burnt stew trail, but maybe theyre gonna change it, it was still not open. It looks really dope tho.

i hit that shit last week with dana flahr and it was wicked waist deep...its about a 45 min hike out there and if you hit the high traverse then there is minimal skating to get out...

work to live...not live to work.

work to ski...but only if you ski to work. The simple equation to skibumming 101

...i didnt do it

i dont really know where I went, but i stopped at one of the groomed trails at the bottom of the bowl, and it only took around 10 min to skate out

question? why would u go there after like 3cm of rain and a freeze up... should be more like a 10min skate out... u mustve tracked low after hitting the bowl...

ya, just wait, W/B will have a lift to from bottom of Flute in no time, to make sure all the lazy bastards can access sweet backcountry. not to mention allow just plain idiots with no skill to get there with ease. just wait an see

k, your remark makes no sense

^ I agree with you we dont want a lift down there cuz it would bring in the crowds. I went to the very bottom of the bowl and I was not on the left, where is the 10 min skate out cuz where I went it took 45 min, 15 of skating and then u gotta hike up that trail uphill to get back on trhe burnt stew trail.

Its worth it anyways on a powder day.

frankly i'm kinda disappointed they are making it an in bounds area this winter. i acknowledge the gnarly slides that it has produced over the last several springs, nevertheless, that's why it's backcountry. it amount to more tourist traffic and less pow for locals. flute can be a quick 20 minute hike and the jaunt out isn't much of anything. if you're crafty you can even use the singing pass traverse (though it takes you all the way down). exposing flute to the masses will merely equate less all around pow and more hiking to access virgin freshies. whackness.

don't even get me started about the bullshit that's occuring in khybers. admittedly, there potentially could be interesting jibs resultant. nevertheless, developing khybers is something i oppose. it could be good or bad, we'll see how intrawest makes do coming up to 2010.

I agree, it sucks that flute is inbounds. it doesnt make it better for the guys who have always skiied there, it only helps out the guys who dont know what their doing/where there going. and i bet tonnes of people will miss the cat-track and ski way down into the bottom of the bowl/ village

So is the hike in or out skinnable? Or is it better just to bootpack it. I think skinning might be faster for those of us with AT gear. I also wonder if they'll make it harder to 'miss' the cat track out once they open it up. My guess is that there will probably be a sign, rope, etc. to mark the last traversable spot..

Im willing to cut down the huge sign that says flute bowl if anyone wants to help me one night.

i'm down.. that sign would look sick in my place in staff.

we should just move it. put it on some green run. it would be illin to be skiing some green chair run and have that sign in the middle of it

my daddy did it and he said that it was 20 min hike in 20 min hike out and it was easy to find fresh tracks this was about 5 days after that minimal storm

Im not outta line your outta line the whole frikin system is outta line and when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo and find out its your best friends face, well guess what marge its chinatown.

I did it new years day and it was STILL so sick with copious freshies. Whether or not it was put in bounds this season, with my b/c gear I was given for xmas I had plans to hit flute anyway, and the fact that it is inbounds now just means I don't have to wear my pack on days I want to hike it. ah well, lots of people see the trek up to the top and don't bother (thank god)
