Fks rant (help needed)

so i have been using fks 155 for 2 years in the park and it has been a miracle.

every other binding i had would just collapse in weeks or just release when not needed.

i weigh 160 lbs so i set my din at 8. My bindings released maybe 3 times last year. I ski pretty hard and about 80 times a year.

because i had used them alot (4 years of racing before putting them on my twins) and because i thought they were getting a bit loose on the heel part, i decided to buy new ones.

i was thinking of buying 180s because they dont make 155s anymore but the guy at the shop told me it wouldnt be good to set my din at 8 on those bindings, so i thought, fuck it lets go with the 140s.

i just tried them today and they would always release for nothing. every time i would lock with pressure for a blind 270 out my ski would pop out.

So i was thinking.. the heel part now moves around easier, so i dont know if the release pattern has changed because of that. The 140s come with the small toe piece, and got me thinking if it was a shitty part.

now im contemplating this situation and wondering if just blew away 400$ for nothing.

halp me ns... does the 155,180 toe piece on the fks make a real difference?

you spent $400 on FKS 140s?

sorry i cannot be of more help, but I have never had problems with either the FKS 120 toe, or the 155 toe.

cant tell without looking at them, but it sounds like the forward pressure is too low. Ive never had problems with either bindings pre releasing .

This is definitely a forward pressure issue. You should know how to adjust it before you go doing it though.

maybe it was a bad day for fks, i pre released from mine while skiing bumps today and nearly killed myself. first time i've ever pre released from fks

On the older ones have a white tab on the back of a heel tab that is supposed to line up with a line. It doesn't seem very precise, I would just take it into a shop though. Forward pressure is a seriious business.

I don't know about the new FKS but the new Look Pivots (which are pretty much the same thing) have that white tab and a line.

this is the forward pressure indicator on all models of turntables

the back of the white piece needs to line up with the 2 circled black tabs on either side

the picture is shown without a boot in the binding so when you click in, the tabs will line up

I didnt read all the responses because I am in class but I have never had trouble with mine (6 feet 2 in 160) and my din is on 7 (140's) I have never had trouble with mine infact they are the best I have ever used. Is it possible your shop mounted them a little wrong?

The tab isn't accurate most of the time. Snap your boot in and try to twist the dildo. You want little to no rotation. Don't lock it down too far though. Once that's set, bump up your setting incrementally if you're still releasing when you don't want to.

And yes, you did blow $400 for no reason. Sounds like you were worrying for no reason about the old ones and had a few hundred bucks lying around.

i spent $130 on new fks 120s and i havent had one unnecessary ejection yet, i think you might need to be on a higher din setting

your problem is the forward pressure. When I mounted my new Pivot 14's this season I set the forward pressure so the ramp lined up with the tabs and I could still turn the dildos and lift the heel of the boot off the base plate. I had to set them so the ramp was about 2mm past the tabs.

so apparently the sucker didnt set my binding well

what a noob, got it fixed gonna try it towmorrow

so yeah this was a forward pressure issue, tested them bindings yesterday and everything went perfectly.

thanks guize.
