FKS bindings, What's the best toe piece?

What's the performance difference between the FKS race aluminum toe piece and the FKS full action toe piece?

Look's website does not explain it well. https://www.look-bindings.com/technologies

I love skiing big mtn and park without changing skis (usually a line chronic), I weigh 185lbs and consider myself an excellent skier.

Thank you! and +K for advice :)

the metal race toe is their flagship toepiece. it's their best/strongest one and yes it does have upward release. only downside is weight (if you're reallllly concerned with weight; i think it'd be really silly to not get it for that reason) and cost. and the metal ones work with the CAST touring gear, if that's something possible for you at some point

so it's not so much the pros and cons of the toe pieces' performance, it's more just "do i need/can i afford the metal one?" does that make sense? the pivot 12 and 14 have the plastic toe, and the pivot 15 and 18 have the metal toe. the metal toe is great but the plastic one is fine unless you're big and/or charge hard and/or want them to last forever

if you're still undecided just describe your skiing and stuff (and budget concerns!) for me or let me know if you didn't understand anything i mentioned

Thanks! that clears some things up, and looks like I'll get the bindings with the metal toe piece!

no problem man. and now i see that you said you're 185lbs, into big mtn, and excellent skier so yeah you'll fit just fine on the 15s or maybe even 18s. excellent bindings, i've had metal pivots that outlasted absurd use and abuse

How you feel about riding pivot or jester 18 close to the bottom of their din? I lost about 30lbs last year so there’s possibly no need for me to be at 11+ din but I keep my jesters at 11 bc I don’t wanna bottom out, don’t wanna check spring for movement from vibration everyday, spent whole last season shredding with possibly overly selected din, but there were no problems when I wreck I’m going 70 shit comes off just fine lol

ugh dude i know, this is kinda like how i mentioned above that the metal toe does have upward release, because lots of people think it doesn't, it's a common misconception/argument

but i still don't have a definitive answer on the "don't use the very bottom or top of your binding's din range" thing, ive heard lots of very knowledgeable people claim it both ways. for what it's worth, if i had to guess, it's fine... it's a high quality engineered product and i think it seems a bit unlikely that they're shipping thousands of pairs of bindings every year, each with 2 din settings that can't be safely used. so if i were in your position i'd probably just go ahead and use the setting i initially wanted to (shrug)

Ya I have been, spent last season at that din , just always looking for input on the subject

i hear ya dude i always ask people when i get the chance. it's that mystery, and what the story is behind those (literal) gold-plated pivots that come on those wild Foil skis. last time i had the chance to ask a Look guy i was a little tipsy and got sidetracked because he told me the news about the 15s coming back lol
