FKS 140 Questions

Okay so I have a few questions about FKS 140's. I searchbared and didn't really find what I was looking for. So I am about 5'6", 130lbs, and have a bsl of 305. Skier level 2-3. I usually run my DIN around 6. So my question is will the FKS 140's be too much for me? Since they have great elasticity I would probably want to set them at the lowest setting of 5, but I have heard that running bindings at the lowest setting is not a good idea. Or is this just a myth?

Thanks and +K for any help.

I actually usually set my FKS dins higher than my other DINs (I normally ride at an 8, my FKSs are at 9) because the turntable will help with releasing so the DIN can be kept a little higher. Either way, they're not too much for you, keeping a binding on their lowest DIN is fine, it's cranking up to the highest that can cause a problem.

Okay thanks a lot. I also forgot a question. The ski shop I usually go to does not carry rossi bindings, so is it likely they will not be able to mount them? (I would be buying online.) Like do most ski shops only have jigs for the bindings they carry?

If the store carries Look bindings then they should have the same jig.

Call down to the shop and ask their tech guys if they have the FKS jig. I did the same for a shop back when I needed to mount some older P12's. They only carried Marker and Solomon bindings, but had the necessary mounting jigs to work with most other brands.

Okay thanks a lot! +K. My shop is closed for the summer but I think I will order the bindings now anyway so I can get them cheaper. Sorry Flashkick, already had you at 10.

I've found that most stores carry most jigs, even the generic sporting-goods stores carried FKS/Pivot jigs. I ended up getting mine mounted at a store that doesn't deal in Rossis, but any mid-sized store should have a jig.

I recommend running your DIN at the chart suggested if you are only type 2 skier. If you are 3 or 3+ you should be able to decide for yourself if you need to tighten them.
All bindings are set to the same standards and will release the same. A Marker 7 will release at the same point as a Look 7. (this is all measured in Newton Meters by the amount of force it takes to release from a binding). Some bindings do however provide more elastic travel and will give you a bit more room for error. The Marker Biometric toe will want to release you once the boot hits a certain point. Where as others will allow your foot to tweak slightly and come back to center. Same with the heel releasing forward. Look/Rossi have the most amount of elastic travel in the heel and therefore allow you to come more forward without completely releasing. Think about it as a margin of error. Some might be considered a "safety" binding whereas others would be considered "retention".
The FKS 140 should not be too much. I highly recommend running a pair on all your skis.
