So i would like to start out with saying the thing many people will point out before i even start, yes I recently signed up and i´m new here. However that does not mean ive never been on NS before. With that beeing said i have SOME experience of using the search function here, and all i can say about it so far is that i´m...

Why should we fix it?

Well, the search function needs to be fixed because it´s hard to find stuff. When I for example use it to search for a topic it always puts the freshest ones first and that´s not accurate searching. Also there are many threads made by kids that asks the same thing and i can´t be the only one feeling that way.

How shall we fix it?

I think we can fix it by making a filter.

What should this filter contain?

In the filter things such as: Date, Rate, Views (of the thread) should be included and toggleable. It should pretty much contain the same features as the current video filtering function here on NS.

Why would this help you and the forum?

Well, we can organize the forum alot better by not repeating the same old threads over and over again, but instead collect all the threads with the same topic into one huge thread.

I agree 100%, searchbar could use a lot more advanced features. I like the filters idea!
 
Try this out

Go to google

type in "site:newschoolers.com" and then type whatever you want to search for, it works really well. the search bar has been a problem since 2004 its really tough to make it perfect.

Sure it may be tough but here in Sweden we have a ski-forum (freeride.se) and that one has a very good search function! That is weird since NS forums are alot bigger and yet ours is better...
 
If the minimum search length stays at 3 letters, I will murder you.

It's so f'ing annoying, that's the only flaw I find with it, it's not perfect, but it's EASILY usable for words over 2 letters.
 
The search bar is phenomenally flawed well beyond this. We really do know it sucks, and we really do want to fix it. We've got some ideas, adn hopefully we'll get a few of them out soon enough.

 
Just a thought I had, not sure what other people think about it, but it would be nice to also search in specific forums, so if I type in some ski brand I'm looking around for a thread in gear talk about, I don't have to look through 100 sell/trade threads as well.
 
i seem to remember the search bar being pretty good back in the day... way back before the revamp and before the google search bar.
 
I'd almost be a little disappointed if NS ever had a great searchbar.

8 years on this website, and almost everything has changed...except for people complaining about the searchbar.
 
It'd be sweet if there was a way to search multiple words "gaper skiers". I can understand if you just put in gaper skiers it using either word to find you a thread, but there isn't a way to get multiple words when you know it's the correct order.

Using google search is the only decent way to find stuff on here.
