Fixing headphone jack

I dont know whether to post this here or NSG, but what ever

recently, my earbuds (v-modas) which i love, and were expensive, have been having sound problems. i realized one day that i was just hearing like the background music. i wasn't hearing and singing and i was missing some other sounds. I messed around with the jack, pushed it in and what not, no luck. then i started pushing and twirling the cable around and i would get sounds at certain spots, but i would lose it if the cable moved around to much.

so i pretty much figured out it was a connection problem in the jack (please correct me if im wrong).

I googled it and found how to fix it, you need to cut the jack off, strip a couple wires and solder them onto a new jack. I am pretty handy as well as my dad so i think i could pull it off.

my question is, where can i get a jack? im looking to try to get on on ebay or something for cheap. what exactly am i looking for?

also, the wire to my cord to my headphones is cloth so it definitely wont strip easily. how do i strip it?

i was planning on sending my dad over there (since i wont get home till past 7 and i need it fixed by thursday night). but what exactly am i looking for? like he kinda wants something specific to pick up so im looking before hand

There's a break in the connection somewhere. You've got to find exactly where. If it's between the cable, and the headphone plug that's easy to fix. You'll need a 3.5mm headphone plug and then follow this tutorial:

But it sounds like the connection is broken in the wire. If the wire is broken you'll need to replace it with any thin, insulated wire. But in my opinion it's not worth it. Unlike large headphones, you can't replace the whole wire with earbuds and you'll have a weak spot in the cable connected with electrical tape.

i'm pretty sure its just the jack, some wires probably started to pull away from the connections. a friend told me he had a problem with his and that he just sent them back, they had like a extended warranty because it seemed to be a common problem. i called vmoda and they said it should still be under warranty and to send them in.

so before i start hacking up, im going to send it in.

thanks for the help
