FIS still sucks

I've noticed is last year or so that many ski mags and skiers are starting to accept fis a good option to get into the olympics. This is a complete change from the perception of Fis as a evil ogranization that will just get freeskiing caught up in their red tape. I personally still think that day we accept FIS is day our sport sells it's soal and will never be the same. I mean there's so many examples of how FIS just ruins shit. I really don't think it's worth it letting FIS become a major part of our sport just for that chance to win a olympic medal. I know this is old news but I was wondering what ppl still thought about FIS?

I still dont like them. But, if we do want to get into the olympics, which im not sure is the greatest idea because of moms buying twin tips and such and then carving down green circles, they would be a good way to get there. I need to get one of those shirts that just sayd 'FIS sucks'

olympic new school wont be like olympic mougals i think. i dont think they will put a cap on progression like they did with mouglas. also if we do the fis thing then that means everyone will have to have the same sponsers and that shit and that wont work out. idk wtf im talkin about im a bit tired

but i also think that a sport should get a association. And newschool is getting a real big sport. And if FIS doesnt add some rules like in the aerials, it should be fine.

ya know...you really can't tell what would happen until it actually DOES happen, you have no clue

they had world cup halfpipes this year, and there wasn't a problem, actually i bet half of you didn't even hear about them

now, you can;t compare freeride to moguls, moguls is and always has been about form...

if skiing halfpipe actually does make it into the olympics, i feel that it would do nothing but help, i mean they have snowboard halfpipe and it doesn't ruin snowboarding now does it?

dude i did know about those halfpipe comps, and notice how there was no big names in it,and ur rite halfpipe in the olympics didn't ruin snowbording it was FIS that tore the snowboard community in half

Maybe if someone other than the FIS took a controlling role in organizing high profile progressive freestyle skiing events, skiing wouldn't get caught up in what the FIS is all about. And maybe if that organization could also take a lead role in helping develop freestyle skiers from when they're little kids, like the FIS does now with small children and racing/moguls/aerials, we wouldn't need the FIS around freeskiing at all.

Now, I could be naive and say something stupid like 'maybe the IFSA should be that organization', but let's face it, that'd be like a small startup software company trying to take on Microsoft. Perhaps we'd be better served by accepting the FIS' help now, and then separating from them at a later date. Fuck, snowboarding couldn't make it happen with the ISF in the end, and snowboarding is a completely different sport. What makes anyone think that a splinter group of skiers can actually take on the FIS when it comes to what the FIS does 'best', and win? Unfortunately, it's probably not gonna happen. Not yet, anyways...

^^ u will never get to many big names at those world cup pipe comps because of something called drug testing, and at the first one in sas fee marie matonidie was there or how ever u spell her name if u consider her a big name for the girls

another buddy said about moguals alawys being about form...it wasn't always like that they used bust tricks off randon moguals, and get points for recoveries n shit.. it was who ever put on the best show won not who could ski like a robot the best.. I also think we need sum kinda organization to but it need to be made up athletes in the sport who know's what's best for the sport not just the bottem line

Gigi couttet won the RipCurl, 2nd Vincent Estorc (new salomon international team...), 3rd Jon O and 4th Arnaud Kugener... you know these guys? Too bad, they beated everybody in the pipe at the RipCurl, and that the same guys that are doing the world cups, + many other like laurent Favre or some dudes you will see in the next Candide's movie.

You americans or canadians think that everything happen close to you... There are really good skiers here in Europe and you shouldn't talk shit about them!

^ i wasnt directing that towards you. anyways, you wouldnt have the same skis, FIS is what they used to improve the technology on skis. FIS has also been around wayyy longer than newschool, those skis they based on to make the sick-ass twins we have today where dramatically improved because of FIS. without FIS, the skiing community would most likley be much much smaller and the skis you would be riding on right now would be 210's weighing 20 pounds each with leather bindings. (sounds exteme i know, just trying to get my point across.)

I dont think a lot of pros would want to compete in the Olympics. And not just because of the drug testing, i mean ur on a tight schedule when u go to the olympics its not just that u can't do drugs, u can't drink red bull or even have one too many poppy seed muffins. A lot of pros are used to goin out and doin their own thing without a coach telling them when and what to do.

skierman u don't get it if u want our sport to be controled by a bunch of tight ass old white guys then fis is the way to go, personally I'd rather keep it free from any FIS influence and keep on progressing

Maybe I;m just following a differnt thought pattern at the momment, but to me, I could care less about what the competition world is doing. I honestly have no interest in the global skiing community, or the pecking order of the top pros this week. No matter what happnes with these people, the FIS, olympics or that pissed off euro dude, I;m still gonna go skiing. I;m still going to get up at 430 every morning to build my park, and i;m still going to be at the hill till 9 at night trying my damndest to learn something new. Cause thats why I still like this thing called skiing. How would something like the FIS kill my spirit when I have absolutly no interest in anything they are doing, them, the usasa, the ISF, the PSIA, the NSPA, I could really give a shit.

So what I want to know is, where are your opinions coming from? how does something like this affect you? I just dont see it

 
i hope that if freeskiing gets into the olympics (through FIS) that the skiers wouldn't compete, whatever happens the X-games are good enough for me

B-Flip, you are the most ignorant asshole I have ever seen. Have you even raced at all? It is not some bitchy white dude telling you what to do. It is really chill and whithout it, you wouldn't be able to do the shit you can today with skis. So cut it out with all the free spirit, core culture skiing bullshit. Because all you really are doing is hurting skiing and slowing down its progression by trying to segregate into defined different parts as you are preposing to do.

as it was mentioned before... the olympics didn't kill off snowboarding... and it for sure didn't ruin Danny Kass' way of life.

go fuck yourself skierman i did used to race but I got fed up with all the bullshit, and your right we couldn't alot of things on skis we do today wothout FIS, but we also couldn't do allot of things on skis if it wasn't for a group of frech canadian skiers who dithced moquals becuase they got fed up with lack of ecxpression in their sport because of sum tight ass FIS rules!
