First Skateboard advice

Just started skateboarding a little and I am looking to get into more. I have been going with friends and just borrowing theirs when they aren't using them but I want to get my own. What would you guys look for in your first skateboard? My price range is 70-100. I would ride a mixture of rails and mini quarter pipe

"Just pop" was the first skateboard advice I ever received

In all seriousness though..go to your local shop (if you have one), explain yourself, and find a board that feels good. I've never bought decks online.

What's a solid cruiser board? Not looking to learn a bunch of flip tricks or hit rails or anything but something to pump tranny and just cruise around and film on. I'm thinking of maybe getting something a little wider like a 9 or some sort of long board..opinions?

See if any friends will give you old setups or parts.

Otherwise I'd say a shop blank. Indy or thunder trucks. Reds bearing(don't buy anything else really). Spitfire wheels. Hardware doesn't matter.

Ride friends boards to see what size you like and then pretty much everything follows from there and your shop can help you sort it out. Don't buy online. You won't end up saving much in most cases and your local shop will be far more helpful

aight no one has really helped you so I'll give you my best shot.

for a first board it doesn't really matter what brand, so long as it's a decent skateboard brand like Chocolate, cliche, plan B, toy machine.

I would get a deck between 7.75 to 8.5. The wider the board, it's better suited for tranny skating but it's up to you. I would get an 8 if it's my first board.

Trucks-doesn't really matter, indies are considered the best but they're a bit pricey.

Bearings-just get Reds, cheap affordable good bearings

Wheels-once again doesn't really matter get something from 50mm to 55mm.

Griptape- I use grizzly, but MOB, shakejunt and other brands are still good.

The reason I'm being pretty general is because as you skate more, you'll know what you like

Just keep on upgrading your setup as get better, so that you find the set up that works best for you. If you have a good skateshop near by, hit them up as they'll definitely recommend you something that isn't trash.

Have fun!

Thanks for the help everyone. I decided to go check out a local skate shop and talk to one of them. The owner gave me good advice and set me up for a board.

This is very similar to what the person at the skate shop said and is great advice, thanks!

I second whoever said go to your local skateshop and talk to them, always find that really helpful and you get to see the whole picture.

Welcome do some nice shaped boards for just cruising around - they have a bunch of 8.75" and bigger options!

Welcome or shipyard are my two favorite companies. I mostly skate bowls and i like to ride some wide boards. Also +1 for welcome cuz they have the coolest graphics

If you're just looking for a chill cruiser board honestly anything works as long as you've got decent bearings and softish wheels. Could go regular deck and stuff with risers/big soft wheels. Can also go with one of the countless Santa Cruz/creature/one of the old school vintage pool decks that are dope

If anyone is looking for a skateboard I have one that I would let go for cheap, I posted the info above hit me up if your interested

just get a 9+ skateboard and throw some risers on it an a 58mm or bigger soft wheel, I wouldn't get a long bored for filming if i were you

I ended up getting a shop deck in a 8.5 and a Santa Cruz cruiser that's like 9.75 or something.

Personally my crew and I religiously use indies since they take forever to break and are trustworthy. Also I prefer shake junt because it's pretty grippy but it won't destroy your shoe like mob does. Red bearings are the way to go and for wheels you'll be fine with either spitfire or bones. I've been riding krooked decks for a while now too because at least at my shop they're one of the cheapest boards but they're still pretty nice.

Do not buy online. DO NOT buy a skateboard from Zumiez. Buy from an actual shop.

I bought both my park board and longboard on tactics.com, and I couldn't be happier. Masive selection, cheaper than a skate shop, and it's pretty fun. As long as you do your research on parts before hand, you can buy online. I have never skated before buying my longboard and still bought a board I love.
