If you're really gonna try and get into touring than pin-tech is the only way to go. You won't be able to push them like you would a Pivot or an STH but you're getting such better performance and weight on the up. The Kingpins would be a good call if you go pin-tech, they've gotten good reviews in regards to power transmission and don't have that signature pin feel (from what I've been told, no actual experience with them). If you wanted a fat touring ski look at the Moment Exit World.

Do you have any experience in the back country? Have you taken any avalanche classes? If the answer to either of those questions no it's highly advisable to find a guide or a well trained friend(s) to take you out for a day or two before investing in a tech setup. The backcountry is not for everyone, and it'd be a waste of money to invest thousands into a tech set up for nothing.

13646235:NigelStein said:I have no experience with Moment personally. I wanted the Underworlds but realized I didn't need a wide-ish touring ski anymore. They're great skis, the construction is top notch from what I've seen. For the Underworlds I'd do 186 but honestly a touring ski is gonna be unweildy at that width for everyday touring. You're not gonna find untracked powder and perfect snow all the time. More often than not it's gonna be variable snow conditions so I wouldn't get a ski that can ski Japan snow comfortably and tour on the rest of the time. Not realistic expectations. I'd get a fat pow ski for Japan with Guardians or a frame binding if you need AT over there and then do a skinnier pin tech set up if you get into it.

That's not to say Line are bad skis, I haven't had much experience with them but I've heard good things about the Opus. If you were looking ON3P maybe a Jeffrey 122 or a Billy Goat. I know Moment brought back the OG Bibby too so that would be high on my list too I've heard that thing kills it. We need more info on what exactly you're looking for though
