First Pow Ski Help

Hey guys,

I live in Australia, so I haven't had the need a pow ski before, but I am doing a season in Niseko, Japan this coming season and am looking for my first pow skis.

Few things:

This will be 1 of 2 pairs I am taking (already have rossi s4's for park and pipe)

Skis i'm looking at: Line OPUS, Atomic Bentchetlers, Salomon Rocker II

Problems:

I am wondering if anyone has any input as to whether it is wise to get something this fat if they are going to be my only ski out of the park? maybe something less wide like a SFB or rossi s6 (sickle) would be better? or even less a Kung Fujas / Bridge? I know I will see my fair share of epic pow but if its going to make every other day hell i'm not sure if its worth it.

Also wondering about length? I know you should go longer for pow skis but in Niseko it is deep but not very steep and lots and lots of trees (and back-country jibbing). should I look at something shorter?

Stats:

175cm (5.8) 75 kgs (150ish?) advanced skier...

Love you all

Peace

yeah I hear ya... don't really have the option to buy them where I am tho, I figured the chets, opus and rocker 2 where going to be fairly similar performance wise...

I have the opus and it's the best ski I've ever owned. Don't be afraid of the width on this ski. It slays everything. Rips groomers harpdpack. Real lively and fun. It would be perfect for Japanese pow. Not sure if you've ever skied there but your in for a real treat. Amazing snow. If your into hikin backcountry prepare to have a stellar season. I've skied all over the world and the one place I've always wanted to get back to was karuzawa Japan. Good good times. Your gonna love it. Real friendly peeps and there's a few locals that will bomb drops you wouldn't believe. Those guys are nuts for real. It's not ability either. It's jus straight up balls. You'll see. So yeah get the opus and enjoy!

id go for the fattest you can. the rocker 2s seem to fit the deal very well. they are light due to the special edge tech and the honey comb tips and tail i think theyre called. the mellow rise in tips and tails makes them ideal for japan. id go for the rocker 2s. or hellbents if you can get your hands on them. but they are alot softer and heavier.

Thanks for the help guys...

yeah I have skied Niseko before, but only for 2 weeks back in Feb. Unfortunately the time I was there was pretty close to bluebird every day except for one, one foot deep storm, pretty shattered, i'm told that weather is pretty uncanny for that time of year. Being there for 4 months this year I guess i'm guaranteed to see some serious snow.

Yeah I guess ill just go with some fats then, the finance major in me is telling me to get some all mountain skis that I might actually use back in oz and then just hire fats on the deep days... but the sporadic skier in me tells me otherwise lol

That's the good thing about the opus though. It really is fun on groomers. You wouldn't think that ski that wide could handle it but it does....like I am no bs plannin on usin my opus as an everyday this year. It's that good.
