First park ski (limited choice)

Yo,

I ski in the southern alps and am confident on most pistes. Working my first season and bored of pistes so exploring the park. Used to skateboard so like tricks (maybe 70% rails and 30% ramps), can hit boxes and low rails, basic grinds working on my 270 outs. Im about 5'6" 160 pounds and looking for a light weight park ski.

Limited by the shops in my resort (so I can pay in installments, cash) I have found a bunch of possible options:

Dynastar 6th Sense Serial 2011

Salomon Twenty Twelves

K2 Revivial 2011

Atomic Punx (told they are '2013' which I think is bull. will check again tomorrow and get a pic)

Volkl Ledge 2012

Any advice? I have searched google and here and managed to test ride the Ledges which were pretty nice.

Thanks

volkl's are definately tough skis and hold up well. Try stuff out then order online. It will be way cheaper. Also i ride suspects and they are really fun playful ski for anything. enjoy the piste.

Thanks, problem is I dont have money in the bank to buy online or I would (and my credit card is loaded already).

Local shops allow me to give them my ID and pay in installments which works well cause I get paid cash in hand on a daily basis.

I have no problem with people posting in that thread.

It will never take off though. There is too much clutter for one thread. Just don't go around posting in threads and telling people to post in "The official" thread.

This is the gear talk forum, people come here to discuss which skis would suit them best. It is a lot easier when someone can make thier own thread and focus just on their specific needs. I've seen "This ski vs. that skis" threads go into multipages, and they are full of great discussion.

Personal Example

https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/493589/page/1/

The problem isn't the amount of "what ski" threads, it's the lack of research

Not to go off topic but a lot of the information on skis is in X vs Y threads as opposed to threads about each individual ski. Also reviews are surprisingly hard to find.

Appreciate the replys.

if you're thinking about going k2, look into the sight or recoils. I just picked up a pair of sights for mad cheap and I'm really liking them so far. revivals are dope but the sights and recoils have a tip/tail rocker with a traditional camber underfoot. revivals have the jib rocker which is rocker/flat/rocker. so if you want a ski that can grip better and have a little more stability to it without losing the playfulness of the tip/tail rocker for park skiing, go for them. the different rocker makes them better at all mountain and they can grip harder snow much better than something that's flat underfoot. i've been skiing on limp park noodles for years now and I finally decided to go with something more stable.

recoils are the most expensive, they're 90 underfoot and have a bidirectional taper which means the tips and tail are close to the same size. they also come with the inserts for marker bindings. the sights are the best deal (they're like $320 right now), but they're not as symmetrical as the recoil (directional taper), and they're a bit skinnier at 85. this pisses a lot of people off but it's mostly a look thing more than a function thing. the tips are slightly wider than the tails.

im mostly stoked on the sidewalls. always destroy them first on skis. they're abs/urethane and they're rolled into the top sheet as apposed to being at a hard angle so they can take a lot more abuse.

I would highly recommend volkls. They are durable and everyone I know who uses them swear by them. i am a majesty person myself

yeah its between the volkls and the punx i think

@jdilla - thanks for the in depth reply but im limited to whats in stock in the shops in this ski town im living in just now coz at work i get paid in cash at the end of each shift and have no money saved to buy outright. ski shop will let me put down a small deposit and pay in installments for the rest of the season.

love my twenty twelves super playful and the rocker is good for butters, they're not that stiff of a ski. Dont listen to the people who say dont buy salomon, they make pretty legit stuff

If you want your top sheet to be in great condition by the end of the year, try to avoid salomon i've got suspects and third day riding em huge chips from the top sheet. dulling your edges helps but their top sheets are just not durable at all.

i fucking love my revivals super playful and hold up really well at high speeds. also the rocker helps if you get some fresh snow.for sure get them!

yeah they are the 2013s and i can get them with the ffg 12 bindings but they are 173 and im 5'6" so they go to about just above my eyebrows not sure if thats too long?

Usually twin tips should be around your own height. Since you're mostly jibbing rails, they can be a bit shorter. Eyebrow level sounds pretty much perfect to me.

cant edit my post?

i think its a bit on the long side which means spinning isnt so easy but on the other hand more balance on landing jumps and a longer edge for grip? the skis and bindings are quite like (i think) so maybe the slight extra on the length balances out with the lighter weight... ?

Got the skis and im stoked. So light and playful. Just discovered how sick it is to ollie off stuff, trying nollies too.

I had the bindings fitten on and went straight out - is the factory hot wax good enough or should I go get them waxed? Ive read that the factory treatment might be ok for a week or so.

Yeah.

They feel kinda long when I stand next to them / carry them but the are so light that I dont find them any more difficult to spin on (only 180s at the moment) than the Volkl Ledges that I tried which were 162s.

You'll get used to them really quickly, of they're big than you think, they'll probably make you a better skiing, bigger skis are always nice
