Why are all you film jockeys so stoked on this thing? Isn't it the same as their other cameras just with a different body?

Basically a watered down version of the d600. They say its supposed to rival the a7, but this isn't mirrorless unless i misunderstood something.

Just saying, a brand new d600 is close to a grand cheaper and has 24mp.

We were expecting a digital F3, not a watered down D600 with half a face lift. But can we really be surprised? DSLR sales are down ~30%, which leaves little room for innovation/risk.

This camera is the result of Nikon putting whiskey on the gums of infant hipsters to stop their cooing and put them to sleep.

"Pure photography" can be had for $30 at a thrift store, not some convoluted digital system that still probably has shit DR for $2k+.

Is that a new lens on it too, with style of the old-school 50/f1.8 AI?

How about putting a fucking aperture ring on it, and reintroducing the D-series with better motors or something, idiots. G stands for for "godawful"

The comments on every camera blog are an absolute shit show right now because of this. Its seriously mind blowing how butt hurt people get fighting about camera manufacturers.

I like the guy comparing it to a Porsche because of its vintage influence. I'd say it's more like a P.T. Cruiser.

Having said that, I don't know which is sadder: this camera or the fact that I care.

the d4 sensor is better than the d800 billion megapixels gb per photo sensor. people need to stop saying this is a watered down d600, it's not at all.

The DF failed so hard, Nikon again trying to please everyone with a half ass compromise, I'll be sticking to film for 'pure photography' whatever that even means.

this

TBH, this seems like a pretty nice camera.

The whole retro thing doesn't really appeal to me, I'd prefer a modern ergonomic design.

It puts the d4 sensor/processor in my price range, which is pretty cool. I really don't use AF that much, so I don't need the crazy AF of the d4, and i don't burst all that much (idk what the fps on the df is?)

Idk what all you film whores are trashing on. What did you expect?

I'm also sick of the bullshit film/digital bitching. IMO its apples and oranges and people are just being dicks.

i'm just pissed that they were douche bags about it and didnt put any video capabilities at all on it - like really what is the point of that these days, the sell the camera to less people?

such pure

many minimalist

but really i think the main reason was to keep clutter on the body to a minimum - which obviously proved to be a daunting task lol, thing is cluttered as fuck. they should've either put video on it or not included live view at all to cut down on some buttons.

Well, who started to make teaser videos claiming "pure photography" and naming this thing "DF", most people were expecting something like a digital F in the same way Leica has done their digital cameras, or the way Fujifilm is doing right now.

Of course "pure photography" is just a bloody meaningless buzzword but it does sets certain expectations and those weren't met, by a damn mile.

Yeah they really had no chance of success on this one. Even if it was straight up a nikon f2 with a sensor how does this fit into the market? All of the others "retro" cams in the market have little quirks that set them apart from the rest but this does not. Like said before me they've made a shitty compromise.

I'd buy that. Been waiting for an FM2D for about 10 years since they were first rumoured. Not a modern Nikon camera that looks like an old Nikon camera.
