My gaper advice would be to focus more on the knuckle and down slope. I have pretty big balls so I don't mind how big the jump is but I make sure the knuckle is not too big (so you don't need the "perfect" speed to clear it and not catch your tips) and a nice down slope which will compensate for a slight under or over rotation.
I've now thrown about 20-25 backflips this season on a variety of jumps but I am still not "spotting my landing." I don't know if I need to extend my head/neck back more to watch the snow as I soon but basically I just trust my body and my experience on a trampoline to know how much I am spinning.
I know I need to learn how to control my rotation though so I can lay it out on bigger jumps without over rotating. I just can't figure it out though. Wish I had Friends that skiied and could videotape me.
