First attempt at filming urban (Snowboarding)

Hey NS, I recently went out with a few buddies and filmed a little urban edit in Barrie, Ontario. I'm know it's snowboarding and i'm aware that 'drive it like you stole it' has been used many times, but I'm not really concerned about the music and i'm looking for a film critique here! Anyways, I've never really shot urban before but I was stoked to do so and i'm pretty happy with the way the edit turned out. I'd really like some technical critique on it though, I know a shot or two were out of frame, but I'm talking mostly about colour problems and any exposure issues I had. What was good, what was bad, and what I could work on.

Not too bad for your first attempt, here are a few things i noticed

1. bail on the vignette. its cheesey, looks lame.

2. Use your tripod more. It appeared you had a tripod with some of those longer shots but you had a ton of super shakey hand held shots too.

3. cut about 1/2 of the edit out. You had so many repeated falls, if you wanna show all the falls, cut them up quick into like 5-10sec vs 40 seconds. It got really boring after a bit. Just a few crashes and a couple bangers, move on.

4. the intro was alright, it got kind of old and repetitive and some of the cut shots were just not necessary/annoying.

5. ending was boring and odd, didnt understand what was going on, id cut that too,

6. You had some good angles going on, you just kind of cut around weird with them.
 
Thanks a bunch for the feedback Ev! Will definitely keep those things in mind while im shooting next. And I totally get what you mean with intro and outro, like the weird cut zooms on my buddies back, the back and fourths. Guess I was just trying to get creative and it didn't work out so well. I think I might invest in a glidecam soon as well, just so I can still open myself to some of these moving shots without the shakiness.

- I agree with eheath, vignette was a little silly.

-A few too many full fall shots

-It felt a little purple, but this was probably just the vignette working its dark magic

-Kind of bland, because of overcast weather, but you can't change that.

-I would have liked a different song, not because of overuse, because it didn't fit your chill atmosphere of the shots.
 
Song was more fitting of an "epic" (as much as I hate that word) edit and from the video I felt a more relaxed messaround vibe. And since you shot/edited to fit with the atmosphere of the song it took away from the edit. Maybe try a re-edit with a more relaxed song if you're not satisfied.
 
Thanks a bunch for the replies everyone! I love the feedback it's a huge help. I think i'm going to start from scratch and re-do an edit just for my own satisfaction, see if I can fix some of the things people have said and get it as close to perfect as I can. I'll post the re-edit in this thread whenever I get to it. Thanks again guys
