First apartment

So this fall i´m finally moving out from my parents house to my own apartment, so what things should i buy before i move? I have all the big things as stove etc. and what other things should i know when i move, there´s btw a sport highscool nearby the apartment so there´s shit load of hot girls

how old are you?

Hitting on HS girls makes me think you are either a pedo, or on second thought, you are a pedo, there is no other option.

telling us you have a stove which is prettttty standard in apartments and thats all i snot very helpful

in finland government supports you pretty well, i get couple hundred euros per month for living plus i get some money when i´m in school, so i dont need to pay alot by myself, only food etc

I know, I was just assuming that AR6 would be addressing someone from the United States because that's where I think he lives, and op hadn't pointed out where he was from yet.

Get an Induction hot plate! Its a hotplate powered by magnets (no joke). It is probably the best buy for a kitchen some one that is single living on their own can make. It can boil water in under 2 minutes, has very quick response time to heat changes, and is allowed pretty much anywhere because it is not a fire hazard (The pan heats up, but the base does not.) I think I paid $70 (Canadian) for it, so I would imagine that you can get a decent one for 50-70 euros.

I also bought a big pot for mine so I can make pasta in it really easily/quickly

Get a small shelving unit that you dont have anything to put in. Put it in your apt and leave it empty. Then over time, as you acquire more random shit, it will come in handy. Extra storage is key. Also idk if beer pong is popular in Finland, but if it is, post the House rules somewhere, and refer to them often.

As for Cufe's hot plate tip, I think we both know you don't need one.

Where are you gonna live and what's the name of the sport lukio you live next to?

Essentials:

-towels

-linens

-shot glasses

-pint glasses

-coffee cups

-deep and straight plates

-all utensils

-MoccaMaster coffeemaker

Is it a single flat and how many square meters of room do you have? Helps out a bit in the planning.

Oh, and go get this from Ikea and hang it in your closet, it'll fit all linens, towels and a lot of other shit neatly if you don't have a lot of shelf space.

.

get a george foreman grill.

Every man needs a grill, and since you are in an apartment, you can't have areal one, but why not at least have an electric one.

Also, hit up a thirft shop for cheap house wear, like glasses, cups, plates, spatulas, silverware, etc.

THIS! Go to a thrift store for EVERYTHING you can! I'm living in my third apartment right now, and I've spent the least amount renting it and furnishing it, and it's the nicest I've lived in. There is no need to cut corners buying shit like tables, couches, etc from a cheap furniture place, where the price is still high but the quality is crap. This is especially important if you plan on moving around. Any of my furniture that I'm not giving to friends is going back to the thrift store for someone else to use when I move out in three weeks.

My biggest mistake was dropping a shit ton of money on stuff I didn't need the first two times around. Being 17, there is no need to invest in nice things because it's just going to get destroyed anyways.

How the fuck does it work?

OP, does the apartment come furnished? If not you will need at least a couch/loveseat, some chairs, a few small tables and a bed (or just a mattress, you don't really need a bed). Make sure you have a decent assortment of cookware (various sized pots and non stick pans, spoons, knives, all that shit), eating utensils, dishes, various spices....

frying pans are key to making so many dishes, so its nice to have a few. and im 18 and live on my own, and its really not that hard if you arent a huge dumbass.

Why not? I know when I am at school I use mine to make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can cook eggs, pancakes, ham, fish, perogies, pasta, pretty much anything you want you can make (apart from baked good obviously.) I assume he doesn't have an oven with elements so I dont see why he wouldn't want one unless he is eating out all the time.

This is what I'm assuming OP has, at least some variation.

A basic "Finnish" stove setup.

.

Four "elements" and an oven with multiple options, such as grill. Although never ones have the whole upper level made of ceramic.

if there's a wholesale club near you like bj's or costco then grab as much food as you can. sometimes they have cabinets and organizers there as well. I make a trip every couple months whether i'm living in the dorm (school year) or my apartment (summer). Hot pot are nice as well so you don't have to boil water on the stove for shit like tea, ramen, or whatever else you're heatin up. hope that helps.

Move in with room-mates. You can share the rent and each bring furniture.

I moved into my first place and all I had to buy was an ikea wardrobe (room came with no closet) and a new matress. I also already had a desk.

Thanks! They´r investing 1.5 million euros probably to build Finlands second superpipe and 700m long park which is a huge improment

get like a brita water filter or some shit, cause your gonna be all like "fuck i wish i had some cold water" pop open your fridge, boom, cold water in a pitcher.

Seriously guys, Finland has some of the best tap water in the world. No need for filters. Read the previous posts.

What's he gonna do, pay for an apartment with the money he earns working at McDonalds? I don't know many high paying jobs for minors, or at least high enough to afford rent and food every month.

I knew a few 16-and-17-year-olds who lived on their own, went to high school and worked nights and weekends at McDonald's, S-Market, telemarketing, whathaveyou. They got on just fine.

Yeah really not that hard if you think about it. Idk what minimum wage is in Finland but in Washington it's $8.55, so if you work lets say 30 hrs a week that's ~250 a week. a little under $1000 a month with roomies wouldn't be too hard to support yourself. It wouldn't be easy, but quite possible.

Well let's say a 1 bedroom apt is 700$ a month. (Where I live it's roughly that depends on size, location, etc. ) if you're working 40 hours or more a week on minimum wage and otherwise you're living pretty cheaply it's certainly doable.

Banquet dinners at walmart, lots of them.

BEst thing ever. I have a freezer full of them. When I don't have the time, or am just too fucking messed up or laszy, they're fucking life savers.

Only a buck at walmart

MEanwhile in finland....

Do you guys have meth? Just buy a shitload of that so you don't even care about not having a quick and awesome meal

a cell? what do you mean by that?

I live with a room mate and it's great. Saves money so you can get a nicer place. Also less lonely.

I'm not saying you have to move into a 6-person college house or something.

In lack of a better word, I used cell which we call flats with more than one non-couple residents in Finnish.

If I had the chance to live on my own, I would never live with someone else just to save money. You live the life you make, loneliness is kind of a poor factor at least to me when it comes to accomodation.

Still, OP, would be nice to hear what you're gonna do and how big your flat is?

Also one of these:

You fill it up with dish soap and it dispenses it as you use the scrubber. Way easy and way practical.
