Fireworks Restriction

I've seen this incident pop up a few time on various news sites, but this is the first time the parents have spoken. In short, a guy tried to light a mortar shell from his head and died. I felt bad for everyone involved, but to say that fireworks sales need more restrictions is a bit too far. Especially considering that they can't possibly believe the mortar went off accidentally. We all now what really happened, and it was a dumb, but tragic mistake on the young man's part.

Thoughts on fireworks in general or this specific incident?

The dude held a lit mortar to his head? What a perfect example of darwinism. Now the parents want the rest of the country to pay for his stupidity.

I dont like "nerf the world" people.

They can make restrictions on fireworks as strict as they want... Bottom line is that people are still going to be able to get them relatively easily and will still light them off. Might as well make money off of selling them with loose restrictions such as states like ohio and south of the border.

just like anything else that has ever been banned/outlawed in the nation, we still find a way to get around it.

sucks that this is the new thing, though, im not talking about guns either because I quite frankly don't give a flying fuck about your stupid rifles, this says to me that if more people die doing stuff that is deemed "unsafe", sooner or later our favorite activities will start to be regulated so that all these "what about muhhh kids" retards feel satisfied with their watered-down, child-proof world.

but states already restrict certain fireworks, I know some states like Utah used to have bans on anything that shoots into the sky (basically all the fun shit), so this really doesn't seem like anything new. just drive/order the shit from states that do allow the fireworks, and have at it.

drunk retards will still fuck themselves up, why do we as a society have to accommodate for that, you know?

That guy was an idiot.

I live in Minnesota where anything that "flies or explodes" (MN DPS) is illegal. But yet I can easily drive 1 hour to the Wisconsin boarder and buy all the illegal fireworks I want. I can then bring them home and shoot them off all day on the 4th of July or New Years and never be bothered by the police. So unless there is a national ban on fireworks or neighboring states decide to ban them I don't see the point.

I personally am not a big fan of them to begin with; mostly due to my neighbors unquenchable desire to shoot them off at 2:00am on weekdays. Shit gets old.

hurr durr lets set off a firework on my head since theres nothing in here anyways hurr durr

what a fucking moron thats a fucking perfect example of darwinism at work. any pleb stupid enough to ignite a fucking tube filled with explosives on top of his dome (i don't mean to be insensitive) deserves the consequences. also any pleb stupid enough to blame the accident on the firework is gravely mistaken. the firework didn't get a lighter and light the fuse!

the audacity of helicopter parents these days

Its sad but these parent are just trying to not make their son look like a complete moron. Saying a spark somehow accidentally lit it? Ya right lol. Even if it did you notice that shit and could drop it easily. He was a dumbass that was trying to impress his friends and it backfired. Quit trying to ruin the fun for all the responsible people out there

Growing up New York had a ban on fireworks and it works pretty well. Someone would sneak over a few m80s but not too many people were launching roman candles or mortars.

If someone wants to blow their head off with fireworks then all the power to them. Laws that regulate personal harm are ridiculous and not the governments job to enact.

Meanwhile, here in Sacramento, capitol of the most 'nerf the world' state in the union as far as some peoples words would have you believe - there has been shit popping off so fucking hard that car alarms are breaking.

Seriously, someone lit off a shell that made a damn crater in the middle of a city park on Monday... Definitely illegal, but quite easy to obtain in CA because of surprisingly lax restrictions.

...Probably because Chinatown.

So since my thread got deleted I'll say this.

OP, your thread title is dildos. Do better next time.

Now I don't even feel like posting the semi coherent rants to take this topic to level 99 shitstorm status.

Went to a fireworks show in Richfield, Minnesota which is a suburb of south of Minneapolis comprised of old conservative white guys and hispanics who proudly speak their native tongue in public. It's such an overwhelming spectrum of people which makes it really fun and wild.

BUT people were lighting off illegal mortar shells so large that you need a permit to set them off... FROM THE SPECTATOR AREA. They had the streets closed off, cops everywhere, smoke everywhere, explosions, a sea of people. Shit felt like ferguson.
