i posted this in media and arts but didnt get any help so im hoping someone that can help me out sees it here
soooo i have one of those new shiny white macbooks. and i have a sony vx2000 camera. i have encountered a huge problem. the new macbooks, for whatever reason, do NOT have a firewire port.. which really really sucks, because it makes importing footage incredibly difficult.
does anybody here use a firewire adapter that goes through an ethernet or usb or some sort of other port? do they work effectively? which are better than others?
PLEASE help if you can, i really need to fix this problem

firewire is an incredibly finnicky technology and i wish you the best of luck with any usb adapter you may buy, as I would put money on the adapter not working well.

A simple google search result shows that the 13.3 macbook's cannot have firewire added to them.

i will sell you my 3 year old hp dv1000 series with firewire on it......

I don't think you'll find anything that goes from firewire to any other port, firewire is the fastest medium. and even if you do find an adapter from firewire to USB your upload speed will probably be the same or even lower then when you'd just use a USB....
good luck, and if you're interested, i have a dell laptop with vista, i have a firewire port, i even have two!, but i'd give gold for a macbook, even if it comes without firewire! Vista is probably the worst operating system ever! My cpu is always running @100% and it's really laggy...

he just needs to go buy a cheap notebook / desktop with a firewire port in it and then use that to extract the files from the camera and then if he gets creative he could set it up as a file server with like four 1 terabyte hard drives.

im not selling my dv1000 notebook, its cooling system is weak, so it would be like selling a janky notebook. its my htpc, i transfer movies on to it, and its hooked up to my t.v. 24x7. lol

it was a joke though kinda like yeah my 3 year old pc's got firewire brosif. that is a bummer though about some mac's not having firewire. but really everyone using firewire....can afford a macbook pro.

hah gotchya. yeah tahts probably what ill end up doing. i was really surprised that my computer did not have a firewire port, considering that was the first ive heard of a macbook or macbook pro not having one.
ill probably try to work on that file server biz
