Find me a ski that...

Is cambered underfoot with rocker tip/tail

is ~85 underfoot (really not interested in anything 90+ unless the price is right)

180ish length

Won't break the bank (hoping to spend 400 or less)

Tapered tip/tail (this is more of a bonus considering I dont think there is a ski with the above specs that exists with taper)

Really I just want armada to stop what they are doing and re-release the alpha 1. And since I've exhausted B/S/T for older pairs I need to move onto something else.

So far I've looked at

Faction 1.0

ON3P Filthy (little over budget)

Atomic Infamous (price point ski?)

Help.

tigersnakes, rayzerblaydz, dliriums, bdogs all have the taper I believe but are also all closer to 90+ underfoot

Line Tigersnake

Not interested in tigersnakes. I've had bad experiences with line skis, let alone a pricepoint ski in it's first year of production. (second year? either way..)

Tigersnakes: see above

Rayzerblaydz: I was interested in, but like you said, they are on the wider end of the spectrum

Bdog: I ski an alpha X now which is a stiffer bdog. There's nothing special about it. Armada fucked up trying to improve a perfect ski (alpha 1/halo) and ended up with the remarkably average alpha x/bdog.

Diliriums..? Are those an older elan ski? I might be interested in them if they are easily available but I'm having trouble finding any.

Icelantic Nomad SKNY if you can find a pair. I think I saw some on ebay:

DUDE I was on the same page last season but decided to hold out until now, and low and behold icelantic decided to change the specs of this years nomad to a wider underfoot.. These could be my next skis if I can find a pair from last year.

Thanks for the responses guys, keep em coming.

Also if anyone has any input on the skis I listed in the OP please share your experience. Specifically looking for input on the atomics, being that they are a price point ski but seem to have mixed reviews.

Although they are wider, I would consider those if they weren't $790.. Gotta save some budget for binders.

uh, can someone remind me what taper means?

The skis tip gets wide then narrow. The very tip isn't actually the widest point on the ski. Here's a pic of the alpha 1 for reference. Notice the widest point on the ski is actually several inches below the tip.

The benefit here is a ski that skis like a much shorter ski, but doesn't sacrifice swing weight or sturdiness on big landings.

ahh okay great, thanks for the explanation! is it safe to say taper = 5 point geometry or is that not necessarily always true?

ive had good experience with them west mroeland mall PA has tigersnake 178 for 200$ im too short for them tho and want wider ski

Missed the boat by a day. Had to pay rent so I waited and the next day they were sold out. I guess they aren't going to continue production runs throughout the season, so I'm SOL until they start back up this spring. Really bummed because the wets looked so sick.

might have a buddy that could sell you some alpha 1s if youre interested?

Fuck yeah, that'd be tight. Are they thrashed though?

I wish they still made those space alphas. Check the head framewalls. They're camber underfoot, rocker tip/tail. 121/84/110 at 181cm. I've been eying them as well since I really have no need for a wide ski when all my snow is fake or ice.

I've skied pun before, I like them. I'm also considering those.

interesting ski design.. I could see myself buying them if I heard some reviews. Looks like no one has mentioned anything about them online yet and I'm hesitant to test out a ski in its first(?) year of production.

Bump

Lasy years and the year before's armada b dogs were similar to your specs. They are around 93 under foot and have a somewhat short turning radius, but thay're not as soft as people make them seem, and I'm on my second season and have yet to have any edge cracks. The season before I got them, I went through 3 pairs of volkl walls.

My alpha Xs will remain mounted for deeper days when I don't want to ski on a skinnier daily driver/park ski. But honestly my alpha x's fell apart so fast and I really wasn't thrilled on the way they skied (probably because I was really hoping it to be similar to the original alpha 1). So another alpha x or bdog is out of the question.

thanks for your input though!

I realize I'm being picky I just want to make sure I evaluate all options before I start to sacrifice wants/needs in a ski in order to find something.
