Final Update To "Trying to Start a Rail Jam at my local"

Had a meeting with hill management and it didn't go too well. They shut down any type of competition with judging and didn't seem to appreciate any of the work that was done to gather sponsors/gen event outline. They said an event is possible but they want to do it their own way and want a bank to be the title sponsor of the event. I get that the bank might be willing to donate more money to the event but at the end of the day it is still an event at a ski hill... people don't want to see a bank they want brands they actually have heard of within the skiing and boarding community. The event they decided on is going to be some type of "hips and lips" event. Lots of lofty transitions and flowy rail lines. Thankful for their time to meet with me just disappointed we won't be hosting any kind of competitions this year and into the future seasons. Overall running a ski hill is a business and the owners and management have to do what's best for their business.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to my dream and reached out with ideas and recommendations.

Man sorry to hear. At least it’s happening, but a damn bank sponsoring is not ideal.

still cool though! I’m sure it’ll turn out well

That’s first off definitely not what’s best for their business since it gives lots of exposure and reconnects people and builds culture around the hill. Second thing is decisions like this are rather disheartening to locals and like me end up going to places that actually want to host something and care about the different aspects of their community. Huge bummer man we were routing for you big time on this one. At least you made some quality connections that you can hopefully maintain.

A rail jam sponsored by a Bank.. It doesn’t get any core-er than that! OP you’re a champ for doing this, dont get discouraged.

But dude.. you gotta show up, and show out. Win that shit! If the prize is money, keep it! If it’s just their own branded mountain swag (stickers, hoodie, etc.) I would treat it like garbage right in front of them and peace out. (I get extra petty when I feel betrayed)

Are u guys fr?? A bank sponsoring a local hill ski event is 1. Stupid as fuck. And 2. Never happening ever. What fucking bank is going to sponsor a a random local hills "hips and lips" event.

OP I absolutely respect your effort but by the sounds of it they just told you to fuck off in the most professional manner possible

I feel the same way but unfortunately, the two hills that are within "local distance" of where I live are under the same ownership so I can't really just ski somewhere else or propose the idea somewhere else.

Totally agree man. The bank has sponsored past events and has already committed to being a title sponsor for the hills spring event lineup this season. My only guess as to why the sponsor position is going to a bank is the owner of the hill might finance with said bank.
