Which do you prefer? Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Express? To me Final Cut Pro X just seems to iMovieish. What do you guys think?

Pro 7...

If you can't afford it, torrent it.

Don't waste time or money on Express or X.

If you're pretty new to FCP, express is nice then you can lead into 7. But, ive heard from alot of people who don't have very much experience with editing programs that final cut X isnt too hard to use either.

I would suggest using FCP7, but if its between using FCPx or Final Cut Express. Then definetly go with express because I started out with express and it is extremely similar to FCP7 so if you ever want to get into FCP7 then itll be an easy switch for yourself. And I have the same feelings as you about FCPx it is basically a suped up Imovie with about have the features of FCP7.

Hope this helps...

Adobe Premiere CS5

It's the most useful thing to know at this point what with apple dropping the ball and the new CS6 suite on its way.

Final Cut Pro 7 ... but if you are looking to start out with something cheaper go with express. i started with express, it got me by, and was perfect lead into 7. but don't waste your time and money on imovie pro... i mean final cut pro x

I would say watch some basic tutorials on both Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Pro X and see which you like best. I use final cut pro 6 and I like it, and I do agree final cut x seems very much like a iMovie pro but after watching the tutorials on apples site about final cut pro x it seems like a good tool thats easy to use.

Sorry to thread jack but why do so many people use FCP over Adobe, I have not heard about many people on here using Adobe and it sounds like everyone on here uses FCP 7. Why is this? It seems like Adobe creative suite has a lot more tools over FCP and it also seems to be the more pratical choice due to the native support of h.264 and the connection between many different programs such as photoshop, speed grade, encore, and after effects. What is the benefit of FCP?

i can't say this with certainty as i have never used any adobe programs aside from a tiny bit of photoshop, but i think that FCP had the edge over premiere for a long time. premiere wasn't even really considered a top editing program it seems like, it was mainly FCP and avid. but FCP has definitely stagnated and premiere continues advancing, so at this point there isn't much reason to choose FCP over premiere aside from the fact that most of us are just used to FCP.

this basically. premiere and other adobe things are just now startin to take off with some good stuff. final cut came out before cs5.5 and obviously the new stuff, but i heard that it was sort of buggy as an editing software until recently.

i like final cut suite for color, compressor, cinema tools, and soundtrack pro. but now, the adobe suite has a new color grading program in there plus after effects is unmatched in my book for prosumer type stuff so i am actually looking forward to trying out the whole new adobe package when our school gets it
