I have been working on a season edit for my friend all day, everything was fine and fully functional until I added an effect to a clip and it turns to static in the preview window, now everytime i try to add an effect to a clip, i get this stupid static screen (see screenshot). I googled the issue and tried every solution i read about, i restored my preferences, deleted unused render files, changed my color display in system preferences, and even reinstalled final cut pro X, yet this problem is still persisting!! If any of you know how to fix this issue or can offer any help, please share! You would be doing me a huge favor and i will reward any help with karma, thank you.

Try turning off background rendering. I didn't have the same problem as you with FCP but I had a whole bunch of other issues going on, did that and it solved every one of them. Just never rendered anything till it did it while exporting. Not sure if it'll solve your problem but might as well give it a go and see what happens!

Also it looks like the clip you added it to is a compound clip (where youve bundled multiple shots into one item). I have had issues with compound clips becoming corrupt or not rendering correctly when manipulated. Possibly try extracting those clips that are bundled together and just have them in the timeline un-compounded. That may solve the issue.
