Final Cut Pro..Help

I've been struggling for the past 2 hours to get final cut pro to work. When i import a video clip and go to play it in the viewer i get the dreaded..'General Error..Out of Memory'message.What does this mean? I know my RAM is fine...I honestly cannot do anything inside of FCP but view photos. I have restarted and re installed FCP thats about the only quick fixes i can think of.

Also What would be the best format for the 1080p On a GoPro?

if you're using more than one harddrive, make sure you're saving onto the correct scratch disk
final cut pro --> user settingsshould be the first option there
