i have an ok camera (nikon d5100) that i use all the time for filming skateboarding with an x grip scorpion style stabilizer and i wanted to do some filming in the park this year but my dad is bitching hella hard that its not water proof so he doesnt want me to take it up to the mountains. seriously how much of would i risk destroying it if i used it for filming in the park.

yes i search bared it

i have never dropped the camera and i wouldnt use it on snowy days.

so general consensus is its probably safe?

It will be fine. People forget that camera companies intend for there to be some level of outdoor use with the camera. You can even use it while it's actually snowing and it will be fine, just cover it on the lift and try to wipe it off before you go in the lodge. I can definitely tell you that it's not like the ski filmers on here are going around with underwater housing on their cameras every time they shoot.

obviously if it's an all out blizzard you will want to reconsider or if it's turning into sleet or rain; basically just don't be a dumbass. i've always gone with my gut feeling when it comes to using my cameras in the snow/rain and i haven't had any problems yet.
