Film Studies?

Has anyone taken a film studies class/major? I just had the class and really enjoyed it. I'm not sure what I could do with a major in it. Anyone have any experience with it in college?

it's a super pointless major. I love film studies, filmmaking, film everything, and I plan to pursue it in life, however, I would never consider majoring in film studies. Thats just me. Major in something useful.

I am minoring in Film Studies, but my honours major is Psychology. I am doing the two because I am going to do research which relates to both subjects. Anyway, Film Studies is fun and all, but it can be a lot of work sometimes. Not to mention if you major in it and don't end up wanting to do film you can't really do anything with the degree except maybe pursue a B.Education and teach. Then again, I have not really looked into any other potential jobs that involve just film studies. Some of the people that I have worked with who are majoring in film already work part time for small production companies during the summer, and some just straight up don't really care about what they are going to do and just want to have fun at Uni. If you want to pursue Film studies it might be best to do it as a Minor or Medial/Double Major. I love film, but I didn't want to be stuck without an academic degree. Psyc/film duality is also highly sought after in the advertising industry.
One other thing that just kind of sucks about Film right now is the economy and resulting budget cuts - the Film department is one of the first departments to get the major budget cuts. We can't repair or buy any equipment for the next 3 years. But that's just at Queen's.

Thanks for the information. I think my major will be film production. I'm doing an independent study film studies course this semester to get a bit more taste of what it would be like.

Do you have a good school in mind? Where I am isn't exactly known as a place to major in film.
Film production is fun. In my second year film production course I soon learned that I do not like writing or directing very much, but I love filming, editing, and techy stuff like lighting and sets. haha. Actually directing isn't bad. Writing is balls though.

I'm going to MSU-Bozeman next year-- they're not really known for film either, but there is a decent program. I really enjoy studying films and all that techy stuff, too; I haven't done anything with writing but I imagine I wouldn't like it too much.
