Few questions about longboards/skateboards

Hey guys, so I was looking to pick up either a longboard or skateboard just for cruising around town with my friends and I had a few questions. First off, longboard or skateboard? I don't know how to do any tricks on a skateboard, just ride, but I wanna start learning. Nearest park is 20 mins away by car ride, and I don't have my license. I had a cheap longboard beforem, but I sold it. I liked it alot though. The problem is though my town has shitty streets and you can only ride on about half of them. Or another option I was looking at was buying a cruiser deck and mounting it with longboard trucks/wheels. I don't really know what I should get. I want to get into skateboarding, but I won't be doing much tricks. I just wanna cruise. And from my experience I find longboards a much smoother ride than skateboards.

Here is what I was looking at:

first I was looking at getting this Supreme cruiser deck (before you say "omg its supreme, its overpriced blah blah blah, its only $50) and mounting it with longboard trucks and wheels, or maybe just some regular skate wheels that would be good for cruising.

what should I mount it with if I get it?

here is what else I was looking at:

I know these are cheap, but they seem like nice boards, and I don't wanna spend too much, preferably under $170. And I would prefer a drop through rather than the other kinds

Thanks for any help NS!

anyone? my first choice s probably gonna be the supreme deck and then get longboard or some other wheels on it

I would say pick up a used street skateboard from a friend if they have a spare or some extra parts ask if you can have them. I don't know if there is a craigslist for Canada, but you can get used completes for under $50. Personally, I prefer short cruiser boards. Long boards are more stable, but they are bigger and you can't use them in a bowl. For the boards you listed, I would try to buy local and/or used. I have never bought a blank complete online so I have no evidence, but I have always thought they would be pieces of shit. They can be made from the same wood, but you cant tell the actual quality.

In my opinion you should get an actual skateboard.. Not a mix or whatever that is.

Go to your local skateshop and get a cheap deck. For bearings get Bones Reds, don't buy anything else. For trucks and wheels, I'm sure the guys at the shop can help you out and you can't really go wrong with any brand.

When I used to skateboard, I did like Ricta wheels (they're super smooth) and some low Venture or Grind King trucks. Those were just my personal favorites.

You can still have fun and cruise around with an actual skateboard and once you get confortable you can start doing ollies and move on from there..

If youre leaning more towards longboarding, get a larger deck. Original trucks are a ton of fun if you just want to cruise. For softness, get big, fat, soft wheels. The lower the "a" the softer, so a 76a would be pretty soft. And size to handle pebbles. I wouldnt go for a hybrid since you cant really get into either longboarding or skating. Kahuna creations sells really nice cruisers. And krushed skulls is homemade and are good decks

Go to a skate shop and get a skateboard and just start practicing, ollies shove it's and 180's. I just started and it's so much fun, plus it's something to do when there is no snow and you have a park near by

buy a penny board. they are around $100 dollars but i just bought one and i love it. they are a plastic deck and nearly indestructable. they come with really good bearings and wheels so cruising is hella smooth and you get places really fast. plus they come in a ton of different color arrangements

i'm not gonna say pennys aren't fun, but sounds like op want something to cruise on, and especially if you're riding bad asphalt, you're better off riding a larger board, 1 little pothole or pebble and your penny is gonna choke ...

He can always get the nickel version of the penny. That one is a really good size for cruising. I have the smaller version of the penny and I go for long cruises and it's not too big of a deal. But yea a bigger board might be what he is into
