Festival talk

Who's planning trips to festivals? I recently learned I have the ability to go to coachella providing I can pay for it all, which isn't an easy task. Additionally, my father and I have talked about telluride, and seeing hayes carll and modest mouse at shaky knees

threads.

-gov's ball is looking the best so far. but I'm holding out for roo to drop their lineup before i make any decisions. Hoping to make it to bisco and too this year. maybe loll too if i can work it

im a huge fan of volunteering at these, you can't beat going to these for free, to to mention the extra plus sides like free camping/showers/food/ and priority in lines.

I have tickets to Boomtown Fair, and then another smaller festival in England. I'm thinking about Tomorrowland but tickets are expensive and I'm not as stoked on 2 weekends...We'll see.

I've been going to Gov Ball for two years now, and it get's better and better. The lineup is looking sick!!!

Sweet fucking christmas, Foo Fighters, Outkast, Weezer, Band of Horses, and Chance the rapper??!! I would do so many disgusting, and irredeemable things to go to that. Maybe ill just buy a ticket though..

Squamish, COG, Boonstock, and Keloha are all ones nearby but i havent decided which to go to yet.Anyways now that i have my license this is gunna be a fun summer

Coachelllllllaaaaaaaaa. Very excited. Plus it's my first festival, as well as trip to the states.

May even have an extra ticket for someone. That's maybe though.

And possibly Squamish. Because I'd love to go, and the girlfriend can join, and BC, and Squamish, and music, and party, and music, and BC, and, and, and...

Why would you go both weekends? One weekend is expensive enough as it is, and it is gonna be pretty much the same both weekends.

Will powder was like "Hey, let me post the WORST lineups of the summer in this thread"

Not surprised on it happening, just disappointed how quickly it happened.

Also inb4 everyone going to these never actually goes to these.

You and wankertanker have nothing good to say in any festival thread. Yeah I could have posted the lineups for warp tour, DMB, and whatever other douche bag hard rock jerk circle you can name but I didn't. Get over it. I posted the lineups from the more popular festivals, that's it.

I'm not going to both...

I just don't like having two weekends, I feel like weekend 1 is gonna be better and that's the same weekend as my sisters wedding, so I have to do weekend 2.

Me! Who you looking forward to the most? Im gonna cream my pants when the foo come on. Damn if only it was next year though, ill be turning 20 the 19th, thats gonna be a tease. Im sure there will be plenty of opportunities to get fucked up somehow.

"the more popular festivals" Aka the shitty radio tunes/ shitty electro, I'm 13 and I want to do bathsalts festivals. Most of those are new.

Funny how many mediocre festivals can spawn out of this bad electro fad. I'm not saying there aren't some bands I'd want to see at some of those, but I can just imagine how bad the crowd would be. Bonnaroo turned into this kind of thing and now all these new fests are doing the same thing. The vibe there went from awesome to horrid.

ggfski42 - You should check out Summercamp in IL the weekend before. Always a good time and nice to combo into waka. I skipped waka last year and avoided the crazy weather. Was bad enough at scamp. I'll probably go this year. Also the Wanee lineup is off the fucking chains. Never been but hoping to pull it off. Want to go to Aura as well but they moved that to feb from march and I can't get off this year.

Camp bisco is dead. Roo might as well be dead but you'd probably love it. Also if you go to roo sacrifice a goat or 2 and pray for a close camping spot.

Seriously camp bisco might not even happen. I skipped last year for the first time in years and sounded like I made the right call. I'm probably hitting the philly run next month and if they're going to have it I'd think they'd announce it there since they didn't at bisco inferno.

Ive been to a few diff ones, and of the bigger ones, if the "vibe" of a band with recent radio hits wasn't hitting the spot, there was always like 5/6/7 other ongoing shows with a different vibe.

if not any of the above, what would be an ideal festival/ show for you then big guy?

Didn't go to a bonnaroo for a few years and went back 2 years ago. The whole vibe of the festival dipped off quick with the lineups. People come in there little groups and stay in their awkward little groups. They don't converse with other people. If you try to talk to them you're strange because you didn't come in their group. ZOMG STRANGER DANGER. Also the people that will talk obnoxiously loud through a whole set and then drop everything whether it be a burrito, blunt, or baby and run toward the stage singing the only song they know. Also if you're lucky they'll stay at their camp site and blast brostep from their car all day/night.

The vibe of the band doesn't matter if the whole festival is whack.

And as stated above Wanee has a killer lineup. Summercamp and Waka should both be good. I don't have a bad thing to say about waka and summercamp is generally a pretty awesome time with a gret lineup despite some bullshit on the side. Interlocken was fucking awesome last year, great vibes and great music.(Pricey but great)

Honestly the smaller ones moe.down and smaller are my favorites. If I didn't have to work at the mountain I'd lover to get to Aura in FL. Great smaller fest with a solid lineup of smaller bands that crush it.

I might take some of the tour season off this summer and go hiking somewhere random. I'll at least hit a few fests though. Scamp, interlocken, strawberry jam, waka or mt jam, moe.down are all pretty much locks. Will probably get to 4 or 5 more small fests and 1 or 2 more smaller fests.

/things nobody is going to read anyway.

haha i guess i could see that, especially the car music bro(-step-)-off. last year was my first time going to roo and i worked at. My friends dropped out and i went by myself anyways. idk if it was bc i was alone or had my volunteer shirt/band, but ppl were beyond friendly the whole time. The first day I had to help some idiot find her car, and we walked the whole grounds drinking beer with miscellaneous tents for hours, felt pretty friendly if you ask me

my opinion is... they all have their downside, but theres so much more going on that its easy to look past

the above lineup for waka, isn't the full thing. But I'm so stoked on the full one. new orleans jazz and heritage festival is $$$$ too

Yeah it just depends on who you run into. Cops cops/security were huge douches too the last time I went. I think I got a ticket for 160 outside the gate though so not too bad.

There are always lost people. I spent the first night/next day in 09 looking for my campsite. I've met some cool people every year I went.

String cheese is also on waka this year. And Jazz fest is going to rage. I'll probably be there with moe. phish and a bunch of other good names in the same place. I generally try and avoid the non camping ones because they get expensive fast but whatever. I'll probably go.

Shambhala!

a few others that are small time around BC.

For a few different reasons a part of me wants to see if I can get some tickets for Tomorrowland. I've never actually wanted to go to the big EDM festivals, but I figure, if I'm gonna go, might as well be Tomorrowland. I think I'm going to be over in Holland around that time anyways, so that's most of the reasoning behind it. I'm sure after about 5 sets where they all repeat each others top 40 house playlists I would be totally over the music, but whatever... hundreds of thousands of people can't be wrong right? oh wait...

Debated Shamb but it's the same weekend as Edmonton Folk Fest and Arcade Fire at rexall, two things I never want to miss.

Alright so here's what it looks like now...

Isle of Wight Music Festival

Gonna be heading to Europe in July for a few months. I tried to get tickets to Tomorrowland but even with three of us trying the second they went on sale, no luck, waited in the lousy online queue for 2 hours before getting the stupid sold out message. One of those annoying paradoxes where obviously I know about it because it's so famous, but I wish it wasn't.

So probably going to Mysteryland in the Netherlands Aug 23, and possibly Electric Daisy Carnival London if they ever get around to announcing it. Will also try and get to La Tomatina in Spain.

Boston Calling looks pretty sick

Modest Mouse and The Head and the Heart are easily in my top five favorite bands.

Not to mention Death Cab, Jack Johnson, Bastille, Edward Sharpe and Built to Spill

Would really like to make it to either Scamp, Waka, Vibes, or Catskill Chill. Preferably all 4 would be awesome but I don't have any money. So stoked on so many lineups this year.

For shits and giggles I looked at prices of Tomorrowland tickets on sale the other day from a 3rd party and it's just shy of $1000 for the weekend. HA! Who the fuck would pay that?

Shambhala line up is up. Well, head liners are up, so about 80 of the few hundred that play over the 4 days... looks alright, but I can't help but feel there are some key players missing on the list. Full list and schedule doesn't go up until April.

The line-up has been anoucned!! I was bummed orignally when modest mouse was announced to come to upstate NY at the same time as Mysteryland but now they are headlinging in Saugerties!!!!

going to be epic

Vibes lineup is the best lineup of the last 5 years. Absolutely stacked.

GOTV2014-InitialLineup-FP.jpg

moe.down is always a great time I'll def be there.

Might miss some stuff for phish tour. I would consider going to that hudson fest but Ill probbaly be on phish tour. I've done bigger whomp fests and that lineup actually has some bands I'd like to see. Depends on if I skip randalls island I guess.

Wakarusa-2014-383x580.jpg

^ Cheese and some other acts added as well. Great festival grounds. Pretty decent lineup.

to you and the dude you quoted, hell yeah. I might buy tickets sometime this week. Just have to work some things out with my buddies im planning on going with.

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2008/oct/07/pink.floyd.keyboardist.denied.last.wish

I would have gone for that. I can understand not wanting to bump a band off and it generally would make no sense to try and throw a big band in a lineup just because.

At the same time denying a band like pink floyd was fucking retarded. Even if it's nearly impossible to fit them anywhere you're talking about a last show ever of one of the most famous bands of all time, and they're locals. I bet at least one of the bands would have been cool with moving a bit to fit them in. Obviously they'd be stoked to be the headliner but if they're move allows a band like that to play a last show, I think they'd be down.

Hoping to catch gilmour sometime.

I didn't think that lineup was that great honestly. If you can get to one in the northeast vibes is the spot to rage this year.
