Fear...

im scared the shit out of the big jumps and doing tricks on them i have skied about 2 years now and still afraid of them... i dont know why. So do you guys have any advice for getting enough brave to hit those jumps and doing tricks on them, cause i dont want to be a bad skier :)

just man up....

just follow someone into the jumps, keep pressure on the front of your boots and absorb the landings...

practise on smaller jumps and work up... it's the only way!

i have the same problem dude, the only thing that works is what the guy above me said. make one of your friends make you do it. be like "dude, im doing this, dont let me on the lift if i dont". give yourself consequences if you puss out, and most importantly, dont think too much. most of the falls i take on jumps are because i overthink the shit out of something and get off balance or something stupid.

I was going to reply to this, however my entire post was botched by a stupid Advertisement for Cadillac that would not go away.Really, who on here can afford one of those?Lets get more related advertisements on here.

Make sure you'll have the right speed, and then just turn your brain off and don't think, just hit the damn thing.

as long as your prepared the fear is the only thing stopping you. so get prepared then picture mark abma in your head and huck it.

maybe drink a beer?

Kinda the mentality i take to cliffs, im not much of a park skier, but it can cause problems. Sometimes when i just turn my brain off i lose focus and get sloppy, if that makes any sense. I like giving myself a countdown, once u say dropping in 10 u can't really turn back, then start reciting exactly what i want to do in my head as im coming in, then just have everything turn off in the air. I think a similarly thought process could help with park. Also, as said earlier, go skiing with friends that are better than you that will force you to try things your not comfortable with yet, makes it alot harder to puss out.

Brain off, balls out.

Or imagine your girl and her friends are watching you. There's something about the presence (assumed or otherwise) of females that makes men do things they wouldn't normally do.

hahaha once i didnt hit a 56fter and my friend kicked me in the nuts with his ski boots on. ive never backed down from then on...

just wait until u see a gaper hit the jump ur scared of... then u cant do anything else but jump, thats how i hit my first 50+

Just have in your mind you landing the trick and that your going to 100% commit. You will most likely stomp it if it is an easy trick. You just have to do it and you will be surprised how easy it was.

make some wierd thing up like :

if i tap my poles together twice when i am riding up to whatever i am going to hit, i cant pussy out.

It sounds really stupid but it honestly worked for me

I have the same problem with jumpers too. I'm scared shitless of doing anything bigger than a 3 off a huge kicker. I'll do any rail in the park, but jumps scare the hell out of me. I find its better if you just turn the volume all the way up and put on your favorite song. Start bumpin, and just get pumped to hit it.

just do it! go as big as possible too. watch someone else's speed then go a bit faster. im not kidding. if you go long the first time going the normal distance will feel easy and less scary
