Fear of street style set ups

set up a down rail in your backyard with a jump on to it. but gradually cut it off until its super legit street style

no way to get over it unless you hit it. sometimes you just have to say 'fuck it' and go for it. don't think about it too much. you're not likely to get hurt. but push all that out of your mind. hope that helps.

i used to be like that but there was one day where i got tired of pussying out on them and just said fuck it and went for it. sure i may have fallen but it got rid of the fear of street style rails so im glad i just said fuck it.

learn to ski first, than learn how to ollie. or you could step on like 90% of skiers that call themselves jibbers.

stepping on is a way of learning dude. i'd rather be able to just slide a rail than slide it "right". who are you to decide what is the right way?

Street style is the least scary way to get on to any rail. You can go super, super slow into one and as long as it has plywood in the middle you'll just bump your tips into the side and ski away.

Try going really slow and purposely not getting onto it, but bumping into the side. Once you've realized that nothing bad will happen if you miss you'll be fine.

i always have to tell myself isn't as bad as it is in your mind, and just think i have to do this, like don't not let yourself do it.

...what? bad day?

anyway, its easy man, so just do it. but if youre scared, just go a little faster than normal the first time and the worst thing that happens is you jump over the rail, no big deal. then cut more and more speed til youre just popping onto the rail hardly moving. soon you'll prefer jumping on from the side ( at least i do)

honestly, I am absolutely terrible at rails, I struggle with flat rails (kinda) and I tried a street style rail and it was real easy, you just honestly have to go for it, you wont be sorry, plus, the worst thing that could happen is slidding out on your ass and ending up with a bruise

important note:

when hitting a street set up, you wanna make sure to get your uphill foot above the rail before your downhill foot. that is, if you slide right foot forward, pop, get your left foot over the rail first, then worry about the right foot. this is because of the way the rail is slanted downhill, you will have to make your uphill foot move more, while your downhill foot has a bit more time, since it will land further down the rail, and due to the slant, at a lower position on the rail.

hope that made some sense haha...

If you're talking Urban lips, then hug the side of the rail as you come on. Get as close as you can and just pop and once youre up to the right height, turn your feet 90 and slide.

If you come in at an angle it will be harder to clean.

the biggest mistake that most people make is coming on at to much of an angle and clipping their skis on the rail/box which i think everyone fears. come on close to the rail and really pop then turn so instead of going up and on in one motion its more of up then over two motions. hope that helps

the thing is i have done urban rails that are easy to get onto with either kicky lips or small gaps its just hard to commit to bigger urban rails

thats how i did it. trust me it works cuz i just learned it like a month ago...and i only started doing rails last year... i was in whis a month ago and ther was siiick looking urban setup so i just whipped out the balls and tried ..failed...failed ...failed...greeeaased it!!

nike-just-do-it.jpg

since its already on a backyard setup you have no excuses

depends on the street rail..i personally like the single barrell street rails..easier to slip off the side and if you dont get on all the way. However thats not the case all the time with bars and what not..

this going to sound really insane, but i had the same fear, but for some reason doing 270s on was less scary to me because i felt like while rotating i could get high enough to get on, so i tried 270s on first, i didnt land them, but it made me realized that it wasnt that hard or scary, and then it was easy to get onto them regular, what im saying is, it isnt as hard as it looks.

an idea would be stop referring to an online site to make your balls drop...setup a down rail with low consequence and giv'er...film yourself trying it different ways and see which way works the best

Yeah, you know, when I see a scary street style dfd the first thing I do is a 270 or else I'm too scared to hit it. ahahaha (jk btw)

Practice, Practice, Practice man. Never give up if you fall just get back up and do it again. when you go for it think positive, know that you can do this.

yeah its easier than getting on rails straight on once you get the hang of it

once you learn how you can basically roll up with no speed and still get on

just try it and soon you'll be in love with the streets

Find a rail that is short enough so that u cant nut it. Once you get the hang of it there uc an basically do any other street rails. They arent very hard. Its all my mountain really has.

that just sounds stupid not insane. "yeah, since i can't even

get on the rail, i think i'll 270 on. maybe i'll try 450ing if i can't get my 270 on."
