FCP X problem!

so for some reason FCP X won't let me add a transition in-between my clips and when i try to it just shows a little like circle with a line like this Ø

I've tried to search it but can't figure it out and its pisssing me off could you guys help me out,

I have never used final cut X before but can it be that you have the hole clip in your timeline so you just need to cut the clips a little bit before putting it in your timeline for the transition to work?
 
this would make sense. maybe you don't have enough video info for a full transition so trim the tail a bit an the beginning, close the gap and then try
 
i will try to do this in FCPx now, and see the results. JUst put a whole shot of something, then put a transition in there somewhere.
