that's not even that long either, there have been thousands of posts much, much longer than that on NS. plus i broke it up. really not that bad.
 
it was a continuation of a debate from a different thread, which you may have known had you read my first posts. .

i also think it's funny that you felt the need to call me out on it. seems kinda pointless. sucks when a member you like kinda acts like a dick..
 
Also, if you read my posts, I never originally called them "hipster" either until you started fanboying all over them and fawning over their "originality" which sounds like 100 other bands whom I've heard hipsters claim are "original", like The Antlers, Florence + the Machine, deerhunter, wavves to name a few. They are the current "band of the moment" for this month/year and they'll disappear shortly, because A) their albums suck b) they very clearly try to subscribe to the hipster image. Artsy filming, kinks' ripoffs, suits and talking about sexual promiscuity to seem "edgy". They've got it all. Even Pitchfork gave them a 5.1 at best, as much as I hate that site. You kids who don't ask for better and think 'omg this band is the greatest liek, teh everz ' are what's killing music.

And why would I give 2 fucks about your pretentious use of EitS in your videos?
 
also yeah, keep it in the other thread. Threads are not magical boundary-less objects in which we can carry on a conversation through several. Also, it's JONAH and the whale, you ironic hipster cunts.
 
Incubus truly has so material to listen to and have such deep lyrics that they have always been my favorite group, and always will be aswell

sure, you didn't say 'noah and the whale is a hipster band,' but i don't think you could have possibly implied it more than you did.

how is the fact that i used explosions pretentious? do you know what that word means? i used them because i like their music....

and the reason why i said that was because i was simply pointing out to you that i also share your love of them and i don't put them on the same level of noah and the whale. noah and the whale is simply a band i like, explosions is one of my favorite bands.
 
I don't care if you like EitS. What I care about is your enthusiastic subscription to mediocrity...and you're proud of it! You're proud that a band like NatS can ripoff a band and get away with it....or sound like many other bands that came before them.

assuming that was directed toward me. i never know what to think when people don't quote but it seems like the post might be directed toward the one above it..
 
holy fuck. i just like a band, and i think they make good music. i don't care if they ripoff a band or sound like others. to me, their music is still good. what i don't get is why you're so sure that you can convince me that your tastes are 'right' and my tastes are 'wrong,' and that i should be ashamed that i like them.

i understand and respect why you like the kinks more than noah and the whale. so hopefully you can get off your high horse, open your mind a little, and try to understand that some people might like different music than you do, even if you deem that music 'mediocre.'

 
Naw, it's not about my high horse, and I'm not trying to convince you of anything but to stop listening to bands that blatantly steal. I would suggest you stop listening to Led Zeppelin as well - 17 songs and counting with no credit to the original artist, or to Ok Go's latest single, which is a ripoff of Bob Marley/Peter Tosh's Bobby Brown
 
STFU stoner and do a dictionary search on what that term means. Shorthand: don't shut things out before you've tried them. I've tried them, and I dislike NatH's practices and music, so what does that make me? Not a fan. So quit calling anyone who expresses distaste in what you like a close-minded person. I've listened to every band you've listened to +1 to be able to come to the conclusions I've come to, so quit it.
 
no, see that's the thing. by calling noah (yes, it is noah. because it's a band, and they can use whatever name they want) and the whale mediocre, you are telling me their music is bad. that means that you are trying to convince me that my taste in music is 'wrong.' if the whole time you had simply been talking about how they steal, i wouldn't have even cared. i would have even accepted your argument (not that i would have stopped listening to them). but that's not all you were doing.

the point is, the fact that i like natw is my own opinion, so i don't get why you keep trying to force yours upon me, because it's not gonna happen.

and that's a fucking relief considering i don't listen to led zeppelin or OK Go.

In asking you to be more open minded, i wasn't asking you to listen to more bands. i never called you closed-minded for not liking noah and the whale. because if that was the case, i would be an extremely closed-minded person, because there are many bands i don't like.

i was asking you to be open to the fact that some people might like bands that you dislike over bands that you like, because this clearly drives you up the wall. that, my friend, is what you are closed-minded to (not closed-minded in the sense that you don't acknowledge its existence, but closed-minded in the sense that you are very unwilling/unable to respect that fact). and that is why, in this case, i am more open minded than you because i have no problem with the fact that you like the kinks more, even though i like natw more.

i also don't appreciate people calling me a stoner, as that has bad connotations. and you know nothing about me outside of NS, so i don't think you're in a place to be making such judgements.

Driving me up the wall is hard to do, and you did not do it. You were close, by inherently calling EitS and Elliott Smith hipster, but you never fully went there. Now you're just spitting out posts in the hopes that I'll concede to your points in some way that maybe I was too harsh or overbearing, or even misguided in the way I replied. In reality, you're just very insecure about your tastes because you don't like poeple judging them, which is why you keep posting. Tell me Caramelldansen is terrible and I'll concede they are, but I'll tell you to fuck off because I like them anyway. But hey, at least they didn't STEAL that song.
 
well i was more implying they were 'hipster' because 'hipsters' listen to them. i personally think a hipster isn't really even a thing (since it is applied to so many widely different people/musicians/etc), so i don't consider explosions or elliott smith to be hipster in my opinion.

and its funny you should say that, because if i recall correctly you were the first one to become defensive when your tastes were challenged...

with what i do, you can't be afraid of people telling you they don't like what your shots, what song you used, etc. so i'm not. i have people tell me all the time they didnt like songs i used in edits, and it doesnt bother me. some people are gonna like the songs, some arent. not really a big deal. but to you, me saying i like natw more was a big deal (not literally a big deal of course, but you know, an issue).
 
I like arguing, i'm not the type to just stop posting once somebody disagrees with me. i think arguing is fun, and that's partially what forums are for. never any hard feelings afterward, just some healthy argument.

plus idk about everybody else, but i enjoy reading debates on NS. part of why i'm on this site so much.

and i found a couple new bands to listen to through wafflepirate's critique of the bands i like, so i guess everything went better than expected.

i said that because he clearly didn't agree with some things i said earlier, so it would make sense that he would have wanted me to stop posting more than you.

your argument was that because you think natw is worse than the kinks, i am wrong for liking them more.

you made this point already, and i said ok, i guess that's true. they probably won't last long, they have stolen, and in your opinion they're hipster. alright, i can understand/agree with all that.

but you keep saying the word mediocre. and that's YOUR OPINION. how many times do i have to say it? so if you say i shouldn't like them because they steal, that's a good point. i don't really know if i agree that they are, but i can see why you say that and why you wouldn't want to support that band. but if you say i shouldn't like them because they're mediocre (aka in your opinion, you think they're bad), then i can't say i agree with you there. i just don't see the logic in it.
 
and for future reference, you should stop using insults like this when the other person hasn't been returning such pointless insults. it makes you appear less intelligent and makes me imagine you raging behind your keyboard while i sit here laughing. i know that's not the case, you're clearly a smart person, but i'm just saying it will make you appear more calm and collected if you don't say stuff like that. it's those little remarks that gave me the impression i was driving you up the wall.
 
then you agree with the fact that they're mediocre, because that's a very explicit adherence to the 'mediocre' label I and many others have given them.
 
no, not really. they're not mainstream enough to make a living off a hit single every year or two, and they're not enough of a standout in the indie world to sustain themselves as a band. but think about it, there really aren't that many bands that can survive for an entire career if they're not phenomenal, know what i mean? bands like explosions have only been able to last so long because those guys are masters of their craft. is noah and the whale at all the equivalent of explosions? fuck no. but that doesn't mean they're not good (in my opinion), i just don't think they can make an entire career out of their music.

lots of good bands come and go. that doesn't mean they're mediocre. it's not like a band is either unbelievable or mediocre, there's plenty in between.
 
ok, if you want to make the argument that unless a band lasts for a whole career, they suck, then be my guest. but i have a hard time believing many people would agree with that.

it's like skiing. it's so hard to make a decent living off of being a pro, and only a select few are actually able to make a good living off of it and make enough money so that they can live comfortably for years to come. there are plenty of pros who hold second jobs and will have to find jobs once they stop skiing. does that mean those skiers are mediocre? hopefully your answer is no. but if it's yes, then idk what else to tell ya.

Did I say good bands last for an entire career? No. I said they don't fizzle out like bitches because they're bad. There are a million other reasons a good band stops playing, and none of them are because they can't make it because they're bad. that's what bad bands do. They suck.
 
but what you are listing as 'good' bands are all legendary bands; the ones that are considered the best of all time. 'good' does not mean 'the best.' i refer you once again to my skiing analogy
