Favorite Band/ArtistsThread

as i say?

idk, but one band that comes to mind is Godspeed. I don't really care if you like them, but I really enjoy their music and I know they're a pretty highly regarded band in the genre. But they're just so weird and out there that they would not be able to make a living off of their music alone (i highly doubt it, at least). does that mean they're bad? by your definition maybe. but i don't think so

>Implying that Godspeed did not suck before they suddenly created Raise Your Fists. The album was a one-off in their lexicon, and the rest of their material shows that to be true.

This is fucking sad.

You have a terrible taste in music. I listened to that shit when I was 13 for laughs and giggles, but how the fuck can these be your favorite musicians?

Fuck your shit.

i personally like their other work too. in fact, i like f#a# (infinity) more than raise your fists, although that may be because i heard it first. any argument i make you shut down simply saying all these bands suck, which is just your opinion, not an argument at all.

if you read it from the beginning you would see that i don't, it is only wafflepirate who does. don't make judgements when you don't seem to have read the whole thing

aaaaand this is what im talking about. at least i make points. just because you don't agree with those points doesn't mean they don't exist.

I'm really not willing to flesh out just how detrimental your kind are to music in general. Let's just leave it at you like a shitty band and are contributing to the propagation of shit, creating a shitty industry that produces more shit, and I'll stop there. before your head starts hurting from the intense thought I'm layin down for you.

♥ Honestly I love them so much, them and bands like Listener and a bit of La Dispute.

I haven't seen it, have you got a link to the segment? I watched the trailer and it looks mint, even for someone whos not a biker.

And to all you guys arguing about music, I'll admit that I didn't read all of it, but I think it's silly to argue over music, people like what they like, and even if the reason they like a band is because its 'hipster' or whatever, let them enjoy their music.

Holy fuck that was really good. Makes me wanna learn to mountain bike. I used to do a little bit of it like 8 years ago and now I wish I'd kept it up.

I've never really liked greenday's newer music. There were a few good songs on american idiot, but I like the albums before that a lot better.

it changes a lot, but favorites of all-time and forever:

woah woah woah now. music taste is subjective. you can't say that someone's taste in music, or the music that a band produces is shit just because you think it is. i also can't see how you can make the argument that some modern bands are "copying" bands of the past. you could argue that they are influenced by other bands but saying that they copy them is pretty radical. did eric clapton copy the blues guitarists he was influenced by? no, he was influenced by them, he even said it in his autobiography. without bands and musicians like the who, the beatles, elvis presley, the beach boys, muddy waters, and many others a lot of the music that me and you and many other's alike listen to wouldn't exist.
not trying to bash you, i just enjoy reading and responding to good arguments. let people listen to their own music, and if you don't like it, keep listening to yours. (oh and by the way, i fucking love Deerhunter i don't care what you think haha)

I was all ready to let this die, but you brought this up....64-early 66 Eric clapton copied Freddie King. He admits this in the autobiography - you can hear on John Mayall tracks like Key to Love and Hideaway. It wasn't until Cream did eric finally develop his own sound and do something original. Up until then, he was simply known as a blues player, and HE ALWAYS GAVE CREDIT WHERE IT WAS DUE. What we're talking about here are blatant thefts from other bands in posture, melody, and sound. I'm not talking about influence. Wolfmother was 'influenced' by 70's heavier rock, but they still have their own sound. Derivation =/= theft. We need to make that distinction before continuing.
