Fastest way to detune edge

I really don’t wanna sit here with a file for an hour and go ham on my edges. What are some faster methods for detuning edges

Can I just use normal sandpaper belt or do I have to use a special one for metal

you can use the normal one, it will get fucked pretty quick so make sure you have spare ones

angle grinder with a real worn down flap disc....if u use a brand new disc its gonna eat your edge real quick, and leave it rough, almost serrated. I smooth with file after grinder.

With fairly aggressive file ran close to perpendicular to edge it should go pretty quick as well.

Be careful if you do choose to use an angle grinder, your bases may melt from the heat, a file and gummy stone will be the safest option

Just take 5 laps on the skis and ur good

If you want quick and don’t want to use a file (we’ll it’s still kind of using a file) then set a base bevel 1.5 or higher. It’ll have you sliding and your edge clearing the rail right away

I actually picked one of these up a few weeks ago for some metal work I need to do. Nice tool tbh

Does detuning with a file take hours? I’ve done it on some skis and feel like I’ve done plenty with a decent amount of swipes

I've tried it once and after like 30 mins I could still cut paper with my edges afterwords

Honestly, if you have a friendly shop, the easiest way to do it is to ask them to either a) let you use this:

or b) have the shop do it for you on this if they have some knowledgeable park skiers on staff.

Basically takes about 20-30 seconds per edge so it's done in two mins or so, just remove the guide arm and round out the edges under the binding by taking multiple (~6) passes increasing the grinding angle by around 15 degrees each time. It's a pretty aggressive detune but it's super quick and easy. I can explain this better if someone wants to try it.

Damn I’m lucky I never caught an edge. I’m sure they’re detuned now but I just kinda took fresh edges down to where it wouldn’t scrape off a bit of my fingernail

I just don't detune skis anymore and Brad thinks I'm a psycho for it but I swear sharp edges don't even catch unless you're doing fast slides lol

I have friends who did that way but I just hate it. I don’t like friction at all so any grab I hate. Maybe I became this fanatical in Finland when the local park had sticky ass rails lol

I just use a rock for a few passes. Only takes a couple minutes. You don't want to remove too much material, just enough so they don't bite the first few rails you hit.

with a proper file, used correctly, you should be able to easily deutne all 4 edges to a dull as fuck state of being.
