Fastest progression you’ve seen in an adult

So one of my buddies recently picked up skiing, has probably been about 20 days in his entire life, and he looks super comfy carving around, popping of knuckles, and all that other fun shit. The other day the kid even started doing some pretty decent ones, and sliding the fatter, more basic tubes and bars with relative ease and comfort. Ive definitely never personally known someone who became somewhat proficient on skis in that short of time, and I was wondering if any of u guys have a homie that picked up skiing as a teen or adult, and developed some sauce relatively quickly

*bonus points if they don’t have a gymnastics/action sports background

Got my first pair of skis at 15 bc my best friend and cousin was super into it and i didnt have a lot much else goin on. Fell in love instantly and went from snowboarding 20 times over 2 years to skiing 60 days a year. Did the same with some other homies at 17-18 and within a season or two they had backflips, 2 on and off, etc. toe ropes are something else.

The lack of an all season rope tow in CO hurts my brain to think about

Like anything in life, it comes down to repetition and frequency. For a lot of kids who "grew up skiing", they went a few times a year with their families. Maybe it took them 5-10 years to get 20 days total on the mountain. Yeah, they've been skiing a long time, but you don't get good skiing that inconsistently.

As an adult, it's easier to get to the mountain. You have your own money and transportation. 20 days is pretty easy to do in a single season. You can see a huge amount of progression in that time. Kudos to your buddy for getting after it

Facts… I “grew up skiing” like 7 days a year and didn’t start progressing like crazy until I moved out here and started going 40 days a year minimum . Reps reps reps

if west coast had tow ropes skiing would be incomprehensible

I think [tag=242938]@Jems[/tag] said it first but bridger could have a sick park with a simple tow rope

I don’t get full credit since I have a action sports background. But I bought my first and only pair of skis a couple of years ago on a whim(armada arv 84). Have only skied a total of like 5 days over the past 2 years (only time I’ve skied in my life) I can carve decently and ride east coast blacks pretty comfy, can Ollie and nollie, 180 flat and on jumps, do a few basic grabs like Japan, mute, and safety. And can slide rails and boxes almost got f270 out last time I rode (first and only day in a year) but popped out cause my bindings are shit. I know that’s nothing crazy but I just wanted to share my experience since I feel like it fit with this thread a bit. Oh also currently 22 bought my skis at 20 and never took lessons or had a friend to help me out.

They just need the park to be under Alpine instead of Sunnyside. But management will never allow for Bridger to have a good park, it's in their constitution.

Chris Groovy went from barely being able to straight air jumps to dub back in like two months of skiing on weekends.

this man at killy who goes by chris groovy. don’t know how to explain what it’s like to watch him ski. he picked up skiing park at some point last year. he doesn’t really know the fundamentals of plain old skiing too well yet, but somehow has managed to lace a fucking double. dude is an absolute beauty. this immaculate double flipper was put down the other day. i work park crew and decided to stay in case i had to call patrol, but holy shit the savage did it. @chrisgroovy12345678 run him the fuck up

This is my second year skiing, first year in the park. I only got about 15 days last season but I just learned the basics of skiing. My first season in the park is going really well. I can backflip every jump at copper except the pro line, I can straight air the pro line (50-60 ft jumps) consistent 3s, 5s. I can hit just about every round rail or tube no matter the kinks or length at copper. I can almost rodeo, I can front swap, back swap, front 2, back 2, front 4, front swap front 2. I am a generally athletic person and just have a lot of balls. Skiing is 99% mental. Some people are also naturally good, my cousin hit a rail his 4th day ever skiing while on rental skis. I have no action sports under my belt either, the only other sport I play is football. I don’t have access to a trampoline, my first rodeos were learned on park jumps. I’m 16 and have about 30 days this season so far

Man some of y'all are wild in here. Definitely not me, I seem to learn everything at snail's pace.

I learned to ski at 2 years old, first 3's maybe at 14(?), first backy at 18, first flat spin and front flip at 19, learned basic rails (2 outs, swaps, lip on, etc) at 20, lincoln loops at 21, first dub backy at 23, 2 onto rails and more consistent k-feds at 25.

So yea, I find it funny when I ski with a 17 yo who is like "man I wish I could dub". My dude I couldn't do any flips at your age.

FWIW tho I learned DH mountain biking and kite boarding stupid fast thanks to carryover skills.

My dude [tag=282737]@ScubaSeth33[/tag] literally got his first pair of skis this year and I have literally never seen anyone learn to ski so fast. 7 or 8 days in we were skiing out of bounds, he's hitting park laps, hitting jumps switch, skiing the cornice at Mammoth etc etc etc.

When I was 15 my best friend bought a back protector and learned switch backflips, switch frontflips, and cork 7s all within like 7 days. He started with basic backflips but that was still one of the most progressive single week ive seen from one person.
