Failed Brands

I've been watching old edits recently and noticed some brands that I remember quickly coming on to the scene, sponsoring a bunch of riders and then dying out just as fast. Some examples of this are:

Eira, whose gear looked like something you might find in the bargain bin at Sportchek but sponsored some pretty big names for a few years.

Causwell, who made one of my favourite collections of outerwear ever and then just, didn't release it. Apparently this happened because Eric Pollard, who designed the collection, left the team. After this Causwell quietly faded into some fly-fishing/lifestyle brand.

K2 Outerwear, probably a similar story to Causwell? Had some really nice looking gear designed by EP that seemingly never released.

Coreupt, who had huge names like Kevin Rolland, TJ Schiller, and Gus Kenworthy on the team. Even then, I never saw a single pair at a resort.

Does anyone know the story behind these brands' failures? And what are some other examples of brands like this?

I have a pair of the Causwell Missoula pants still and love them. Super durable and great fit.

The biggest brand in Ski apparel (in my opinion) that is no longer with us is Siver Cartel. I loved that stuff when it was around.

Klint skis

Revision skis

and so many other

didn't Klint only last a season or two?

I remember that the tip splay on the Epic Planks/Revision park skis were so low that it always looked you were about to catch your tips on them. Horrible looking skis.

Not all brands mentioned were “failures” exactly. Some people decide to move on from running businesses and the awareness to make that choice is for sure not a failure. Just wanted to touch on that.

Yeah you're definitely right. Although some are failures others just changed directions and moved out of skiing or shut down.

Klint is actually making skis again but they’re nowhere as cool as they used to be (I think). coreUPt went belly up because the owner made some bad investments I think

Lethal Decent had so much potential

I have the black pants with khaki knees from their last collection, always get compliments on them.

I always thought they were the more cultured choice over FD or Saga for cheap park rat outerwear, too bad they couldn't keep up.

All the really old PBP films are sponsored by Shark Energy. I would love to cop some if someone has a stash in a basement or something.

im looking for investors for my clothing line , pm for the details this shit is gonna sell like wildfire once production starts

Suprised no one has said newschoolers.com yet.

I'm legally obligated to say this was a joke

Boone skis. I was 14 and was stoked that I could have boobies on my skis. They honestly rode pretty well but there were loads of people who had durability issues.

What happened with HG exactly? Did the guys just decide to move on after Eat the Guts? I remember thinking "what are they gonna do now" since it was such a big project and a hard thing to top. But at the same time, I think their skis were way too expensive for a street skiing brand. Look at Vishnu, they're selling 450$ skis and still going

Did Nike 6.0 ever include skiing?

Yessir, and with a pretty stacked team. TJ Schiller, Jossi, Dumont, Sammy C, Gus and a few others I'm prolly forgetting. I think Gus' contract must have been the longest because I feel like he was still repping Nike stuff even within the last year or two.

TBH I didnt hate a lot of the stuff they made, but am glad they're not still in skiing (or snowboarding, I believe?)

i procured a pair of coreupt park skis back in ~2012 for an athlete that i was coaching at the time. although they weren't advertising it, they were definitely a pair of rebranded dynastar trouble makers (or whatever they were calling their park skis at the time). they looked awesome and were light and poppy but the edges were crap

What was Nike 6.0 supposed to be exactly? If i remember these guys all had outerwear sponsors, like Oakley and Orage, but would rock Nike shell jackets too or something?

they were selling park skis for a normal price, then they made a rail damage warranty which was the nail in the coffin for them. the next season they still offered that but doubled the price of the skis.
