Faction CT 4.0 2019 vs 2020 vs alternative

Hey guys, so second to last day of the season I was skiing my go-to skis: 2019 CT in 194cm.

Was going super out of control through soft moguls and when I tried to turn I felt the ski snap and I went flying. However, I absolutely loved these ski. Nothing better for going really fast through the chop. Always felt super light and poppy and yet they were still stiff enough. I would honestly just buy these again but I don't feel like I can ski confidently on them knowing they may just break again when I ski aggressively. I know 2019 had issues with the core. But what about the 2020 4.0s? Do they hold up any better? These:

1008622.jpegNow, I know the 2021s and on don't have any core issues but my problem is that im pretty tall and they don't make them in 194cm (and with the way faction measures, 190 is like 186.) They also don't make 4.0. 5.0s are a little thick for me and the 3s feel too like a midrange and I need these to be my thickest skis.

If you don't have an answer about the core of the 2020 4.0s I would love to hear any alternatives you might recommend! Preferably with low taper sidecut like these.

Appreciate it guys!

I've owned the 4.0 and now own the 5.0.

For me the difference between the two skis doesn't come from the waist width (118 vs 122) but from the camber. The 5.0 is a very unique ski because it's combine been super stiff flex, which swallow anything you throw at it, skiing straight in moguls like you're describing is no problem... Yet with the flat camber, you can throw them side way at any time, pivot turn on a dime, super fun. I'm probably a bit biased as it's my favorite ski...

One ski I demoed one day and IMO was pretty similar to the Candide 4.0 is the Icelandic Nomad 115.

I'm sure there is plenty of other options out there but I'll only talk about the ones I actually skied!

5.0 is the best ski in the world IMHO. Never skied something more versatile, more stable, and more fun. The 4.0 was a great ski but there was too much overlap (they went the -10cm direction for the line. 92, 102, 112, 122). The 118 didn’t fit in but it was a great ski. Nomad 115 is a good call, they’re pretty similar for sure. Zag Slap 112 (which will enter the US market this year) would also be close.

Hey thanks for the responses everybody!! I like the idea of the nomads but are they light weight like the candides?? Also Should I be worried about the core on the newer of those two 4.0s that I mentioned??

Well you did ski the Nomad right? So you should have an idea as to how the weight compared to the 4.0. The 4.0 isn’t being made anymore so you’d have to find backstock somewhere, but they’re not super dissimilar. Nomad is gonna be softer overall than the 4.0.

Nah man I’ve never tried the nomads so I don’t know about their weight. And as far as the core goes I heard they changed it for those last ones they made. I do have access to some so if I feel like the core not gonna randomly break I’d get those. (And the 5s are great is sounds but they don’t come in 194s and 122 might be a little wide for me.)

Oh my b my b it was someone else who skied the nomad. Yeah the core for the last year was the same as the 5.0 I believe so it was sturdy and won’t snap immediately
