F*ck the "new wave" threads

Has everyone just forgotten how to be an individual?

If you need to go online to ask a bunch of random people what track pants are better or what ski is most "new wave" because NS wrote an article saying thats whats "cool and trendy now" you are probably a lil trend hopping dick rider that only skis cuz the kids in your high school thinks its cool.

Stop caring what other people think is cool, care about yourself and your skiing. Care about how you want your trick to look rather than doing it the exact same way LSM did it.

Think for yourself.

Be an individual.

Ski for yourself and nobody else.

Ski because it makes you happy.

Ski because it allows you to be creative in a way thats different from others.

Ski because you can.

Don't let anyone ever try and tell you different.

Sounds pretty new wave to me.

If these ideas sounds "new wave" to you then you aren't skiing for the right reasons and you should probably find a new hobby.

So you're saying that you should ski for yourself and do what makes you happy, but then proceed to tell someone else that they are doing it wrong and that they should quit. Sounds a tad bit hypocritical to me.

Remember how Saga blew up around 2014 and now no one wears it anymore because it got too popular?

The same thing is going to happen to New Wave fashion.

that was because saga looked like aids in 2014

everything comes in waves, trends in styles and equipment not exempt from this. whatever gets kids out on snow is good for the sport overall and even better for small companies who are able to experiment with different shit and are much more nimble than the atomic/salomon/volkls of the world. no use worrying over other folks motivations for skiing, "ski for yourself"

im gonna go buy a bunch of track pants and give them out to shity kids in parks across the world to end new wave.

Then is won't be "kool" anymore

People r skiing like this because they do think it's cool and it does make them happy. I get the frustration but just let them ski in peace

I'm confused. You're saying that the reasons you listed for skiing aren't the right reasons for skiing because I added 'new wave' in there. I think we've got different ideas of new wave. You're seeing the vishnu team bouncing on a bench. I'm seeing the absolutely mind bending tricks new wave skiers have dropped over the last year.

The reasons you listed is what inspired the so called 'new wave' and yes I agree that the copycatting is whack but the majority of skiing is one gigantic copycat shit show and thats just the way it is and always will be. Hell, the entirety of the human thought process is pattern recognition and duplication so it only makes sense why it happens. It all depends on where you draw the line between copying and inspiration.

I like your reasons for skiing but keep in mind that the new wave is a result of that and kids are going to copy it.

I see new wave as a reactionary trend that probably won't last that long. Mainstream skiing has gotten so fucking homogenized and boring so I'm glad that someone is breaking the mold. Although, I think there needs to be a middle ground between fucking Beyblading quad corks and doing interpretive dance nollies.

Not about the new wave shit but skiing without poles is a good time.

Skiing with poles is part of the handful of mostly agreed upon "correct" techniques, but its only a handful. If youre not chasing chickens or hunched in the monkey stance I'd rather see no poles than PSIA robots everywhere

I get skiing in track pants for skiing in 80 degrees on hood or something but trying to pull that off in a resort to look cool seems kinda whack. Really up to you but I'd prefer my goretex pants and insulated jacket any day below freezing... If kids want to do that shit it's really up to them but would be nice if there was like an official new wave thread for all this shit cause it really is annoying seeing kids asking what the best new wave skis or track pants are.

Right on. Me being me. Don't care what people think.

My own style with the cam.

Sometimes you just need to be happy the ways you can.

I ski because I can.

for a newer generation of skiers, yall sound like some crusty-ass jaded douchelord Alta/Snowbird powhounds with nothing but cynicism.

The Cycle.

Something in skiing changes.

Everyone gets excited.

Everyone gets skeptical cuz everyone is excited.

Hate on the different thing.

Say theres a right way and other ways are wrong.

Style starts to stagnate.

...and something in skiing changes.

Cycle repeats

Vinni, I used to feel the same way: ski with polls no matter what. But I think if you're just going to ski park, pipe or rails all day, then it's not a big deal. If you're gonna ski the rest of the mountain though, get your polls out!

As far as the new wave goes, I had never heard of it before, but I'm familiar with the Euro kids who wear adidas soccer pants when they're out jibbing, blah blah blah. It's not my thing - I'll wear something warmer and baggier. Plus, I'm not gonna keep my legs together like I'm some 70s hot dogger - feels so forced.

I personally think keeping the legs together shows more control and style. I'll admit it, I try to do it all the time but it's not a new thing. I got the inspiration after binge watching Mike Hornbeck videos.

I totally agree. Whats up with people always trying to be the same as others nowadays. Personally I will always be a fan of the 09 gangster style which is why I love skiers like Keegan.

But what kind off polls are you down with? I've always been a Gallup man myself.

Onesie's are the best. Maybe you are too young to have been there. They are making a comeback in places.

Yea, some of the new ones being made now are like wearing a sleeping bag.

To look even half assed decent they need to fit well. Tippsy Elve's have the fit, but very few patterns and most of them are not very good looking in my opinion.

Nothing sweeter than a nice female with a good fitting one!

Anyway, it's all good, some like, some hate. That's life.
