I don't expect much out of this thread but maybe some discussion will get going about just how fucking greedy people can be. This is what deregulated capitalist economy is all about.

if the world had given up and decided to practice sustainability 50 40 30 hell even 10 years ago many loads of crap that are constantly nagging at the world wouldnt be a problem right now, gas/oil being one of them

i hope you all know how gas stations work...in most towns in NH the local gas stations call each other up and find out what prices are and they all agree to set higher...as much as i believe in Laissez-faire gas is one of those things that just cant be held over our heads with a string there is too much money being made on it and there needs to be some sort of government regulation on it...which there will be soon enough...

This is exactly why I try to avoid cars as much as possible. I walk or bike wherever I'm going and I save money and the environment at the same time.

We can call the corporate heads of these companies greedy if we want but they're really just like you and me. If you were in a position of absolute power, like they are in regard to gasoline sales, and you could charge whatever you wanted for a product, why wouldn't you? Most aspects of our world run on oil or oil based products and so people will purchase the oil products regardless of price. Why? Because we have to.

The major oil companies run our economy. I know that's a bold statement but it's true. They've got the keys to the world and no one can do anything to take those keys away (at least for a few more years, until oil supplies start to dwindle.).

this is not really new; all the major oil companies and even mom and pop gas stations decided to gouge the prices on gas like 2 years ago. the only solution to the current gas situation is drilling anwr 1002 or government regulation (the latter being a bad thing in the long run).
