Exploding cell phone

So my grandpa sent me this email and I just thought I would share it. Some pretty scary stuff.

A person was recharging his mobile phone at home. Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the charging

instrument still connected to the outlet. After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the floor with a heavy thud. As you can see, the phone actually exploded. His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Cell phones are a very useful modern invention. However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death. Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! If you are charging the cell phone and a call comes in, unplug it from the charger and outlet.

probably fake email generated as a scare tactic. news article or i'm calling bullshit. Its not that I doubt it, just that these stupid emails that are forwarded everywhere are usually fake.

I answer my phone ALL the time when its plugged into the wall, and I've never been blown up...

Knock on wood?

I actually received pictures in my email with the pillow just fried, and a pic of the kid and the aftermath

you cut off the end

"Forward this to 10 people or else your phone will blow up even if it's not plugged in"

It's not bullshit as in phones do heat up and explode from time to time and that could cause the wiring in the charger to fault and shock you, but I think you have more chance to live through 100 plane crashes than to die from a charged, exploding phone hooked to the wall.

You must be mistaken...

These aren't the droids you are looking for

Sueing? Is that always the first thing that comes to mind when something bad happens to you? You'd probably sue for outrageous amounts as well, right? Or am I assuming too much?

Terrible world we live in.

Actually all you calling bullshit on OP are wrong. I don't know the details of this affair, but I do know that several people have been injured and a few even killed by their cellphone on charge. Normally, a cellphone with a genuine battery coming from the brand itself (Motorola, Samsung, Nokia..) should never explode, because its battery is made with a system that protects the cellphone from overcharging. But since a lot of people buy fake batteries on ebay and in Chinatowns, the possibility of getting killed by your cellphone do exist. The fake batteries, that are mostly made in China, sometimes don't have the part that protects them from overcharging. I've seen in a few reports on counterfeiting which also showed exploding batteries. Believe it or not, some people are stupid enough to buy batteries selling at $2. Cell phone companies even hire investigators to find the counterfeiting factories.

That being said, it's not because you let you cellphone one charge that you'll necessarily die.

This seems reliable...

Just saying you "know" several people who have been injured and killed means nothing.

Did no one read the article? It says, and I quote "Aron Embry said he was getting into his car while trying to make a call when he heard a popping noise."

Now how could that have been plugged into a charger? No one turns the car on, plugs their phone then gets in the car. Or has massive extension cords to charge it all the way to the car.

I answer calls all the time with it plugged in, i haven't died yet.

do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to plug in some phones in the dark? Especially if you're fucked up. And this is total nans anyway. I ain't scurrred.

"Aldous Snow: Awful bloody film. I say, it's just a ridiculous premise. What would happen if your mobile phone killed you? Why would a mobile phone kill anyone? Doesn't make sense. How can a mobile phone have an agenda and kill people...

Peter Bretter: I told her that when she read the script

Aldous Snow: Yeah, you were the voice of reason, mate.

Peter Bretter: I tried to be, but she didn't listen.

Aldous Snow: Going around killing people. A mobile phone, like doing murders.

Peter Bretter: Why couldn't you just take the battery out of the phone?

Aldous Snow: Right. That's it. The battle's over.

Peter Bretter: Yeah, we've won.

Aldous Snow: I hated it.

Sarah Marshall: Well, it's not for everyone, but it...

Peter Bretter: No, it's ridiculous. Here's my favorite scene. Hello?

[Peter feigns death]

Aldous Snow: Right. I could never happen.

Sarah Marshall: It's a metaphor for addiction to technology.

Rachel Jansen: For society, how we're reliant on technology. I get it. I'm with you.

Aldous Snow: It's a metaphor for a crap movie.

If you read it says that the article posted is not the same as the story, but it is a similar story that happened

I attached a wire to my dick, its exploded in a couple ppls face and they sued telus.

all in all I don't believe it

Fox comes out with this sensationalist bullshit all the time. Like the story about government commissions deciding which elderly medicare patients lived and died by denying their benefits or some shit like that. Fox news is all about fear. It's how they make their money.

I'm pretty sure if one were to buy a product that malfunctions and causes serious bodily harm to that person, said person is perfectly entitled to seek compensation.
