get a mixing bowl, bucket, anything that holds a liquid. Use a non liquid detergent, pour that into the bowl with water, and just work it with your hands.
worked for me with my baseball hats growing up, and those things got rank. the water would be left gray with flys buzzin and shit, but that hats always turned out good as new
