Evolving of no-poles?

Im probably gonna get weird looks and stuff for this, and gonna get called repost, but whatever, ill just spit it out....
So, skiing without poles is fun, but why would one use poles in the first place, i understand its usefull in powow and poleplant during carvings, but seriously, not many people actually use poles in the park, except maybe for pushing on the in-run, but that can also be accomplished by pushing with you skis (dunno what its called in english) so no poles needed for that, what else could a park skier use poles for? the only other obvious use is liftlines, without poles it sucks if you end up in the middle. so then i tought about snowboarders, they dont use poles either, how do they progress in liftlines, easy, they step out of their binding, now that obviously isnt workin for skiing, so what could we do? then i figured something out, what if there was something as freestyle no-poles binding with manually retractable brakes, so at the end of the run, at the lift, you just flip out your brakes and you can proceed easily, then if you leave the lift, flip em back up and ski ...;
I allready apologize for this outrageous idea, but i tought i'd share it with you guys...
So in short : No poles solution for liftlines = some sort of manual brakes you can flip out to have grip in the line....

instead of just telling something, Ill turn it into a question: What do you think about the retractable brake/crampon thingy for liftlines (imagine that skiing realy is evolving away from poles)

This ^

I spent a couple months skiin no poles (mostly cause mine were stolen) and then went back to having them. So god having them back!! Feels way more comfy

So you're implying that instead of just using poles, skating, or grabbing onto something nearby, some company should do R&D for a new binding system so no-polers can get to the chair easier? Wow.

this is an interesting idea, but it will never catch on. I skied equally with and without poles this year, and i like both. I like having poles up north because i sneek into the trees and such, but down in CT i'm always in the park. I like trying new and bigger things without poles so i won't land on one and you gain so much more balance when spinning without poles. Once I get a trick down, and grabs down, I like to go back to using poles because I think it looks better and feels more natural. I like both. I have no preference.

for mepark=no poles, just don't really find use for them in the park.pow= poles (most of the time) i personally like them in pow because they help me keep a rhythm going in and out of my turns.

when i dont use poles its because i recently broke a pair or have a broken arm or something. there essential for balance for sure

your idea is already a reality in the states. marker already makes those bindings that your thinking of. ive seen people on my mountain using them for lift lines and crap. for the poles i think if your learning a trick i dont use poles (2 less things to worry about). but once you get the trick dialed i bring the poles back. they add sooo much style. and for comps, poles fosho.

I use poles but some of my friends dont and to get around they unclip one ski pick it up and push like they are snowboarding. Its actually equal to or faster than pushing with poles.

I have a dream that someday there can be a thread on NS that mentions no poles, but doesn't turn into a long list of rationalizations for holding them.

Aaanyway, I hear you dude. The lift line is the only place where I find myself wanting them, especially mountains that have uphill liftline areas, you're kinda trapped so you can't skate up properly. I advocate having friends that hold poles and simply stealing one of theirs.

but if there is a binding with some kind of grip mechanism I'd love to see it. it would have to be pretty simple and inconspicuous or i wouldn't really be interested.

well for the poles thing i always us them because it just feel right and look weird when skiers dont have them but for the brakes somebody need to come up with a freestyle brake because if your ski popes out when you land switch the brake snapes right off and me and my friends have gone threw many last season

ya it feels awkward without em,, i feel..naked..without poles..and they help me with presses and shiz..pole plants ftw.

the marker dukes are what you are talking about but they arent exactly what he was talking about...they can act like normal bindings and like tele bindings with some sort of release thing...would probably work though for what he's talking about

that "release thing" requires taking your ski off, and has absolutely nothing to do with the brakes, it has to do with touring. If your boot is in the binding, either in ski or tour function, the brake is where it is supposed to be. and tele with dukes= kinda fun for a bit but you can rip the binding right off, hence it is for touring up and alpine skiing down

I like to ski no poles when I'm riding park, and sometimes I like it in the pow because it's different than with poles, and it's fun too. Sometimes in the powpow it's bad, though, because the lifties and patrollers discriminate... but you look super silly, which is a plus. You've seen Idea? That's why it's so great to ride no poles in the powdah. For park, poles are useless because they just get in the way, and the lifties of the park lifts generally understand so they don't discriminate. Plus you can grab better.
However, your idea is pointless, because that's just another complicated system that would be potentially easy to break. I see where it's going, but you can get along fine in a liftline without poles, it just takes a little bit of practice... and some pulling on unsuspecting gapers, and pretending it wasn't you.

hahaha seriously, i had to do a double take to make sure i was reading that post right...

but about the thread, do you guys really have that much trouble going through the lift lines without poles? just curious, ill drop them occasionally and never had that significant of a problem in the lift line.

it was obviously a bad idea to post this on NS, maybe 10% actually read the post and maybe 2 or 3% actually replied to it in a constructive manner....

The solution for sketchy lift lines without poles is to take one ski off, and hold it in your hand.

And all the people posting in this thread about why they use poles or not are giant douche bags.

sounds like a million dollar idea to me! it would be useful to more than just no polers also. if the design was simple and proper, it could aid beginner alpine skiers and cross country as well.

when engaged it would keep you from sliding backward, but it would still need to disengage to allow for you to still slide forward. the funny thing is, corporate ski companies will not spend any money for R+D. its not worth the time and effort. they didnt invent twins, they said it was stupid until kids bought them and made them. they were forced to make them. kids inventing the sport should be inventing the products and making millions selling the rights.

as far as this thread goes....idiocracy is inevitable. are kids seriously this retarded?
