Anyone go there?

I went to a vist day today and the way they teach is really unique and cool.

Its all interdisiplanary.

like you take programs instead of classes that invove, media arts, science, and other stuff. and they tye ever class together inorder to see the big picture of the subject, from every different view.

on top of that, you also do not recieve a letter grade. over the course of your program, however long it may be your teachers really get to know you (small school) and then at the end they write an evaluation.

at graduation you either get a BA or a BS, and the admission to Grad schools is really high.

and crystal is about 2 hrs away.

its a good school, if you like to do LOTS of drugs and shower infrequently.

seriously though, I had a friend go there, liked it a lot at first... but the novelty of it wore off quickly, and he really wasn't learning anything useful at all. He went elsewhere (has ended up in australia now somehow) and is doing much better.

I would look elsewhere if I were you, just my $0.02

how was he not learning anything usefull. the whole methodology of the school is to apply it to how it is in the world.

its true there's a good bit of hippies, however the steriotype doesn't run true for the whole school.

definatly liberal though.

any other 2 cents?

Are there anyother colleges in WA that lean towards the interdisiplinary style of teaching?

The thing is I'm really interested in Photography and Sciences and i want to combine the two.

now sure yet about the BS or BA

That's the idea, I'm just not sure how well they pull it off. If you want I can get you an email for my buddy, and you could ask him specifically what he thought. I have a few other friends that went there and stayed there and loved it, so I suppose it depends on the person and what you want.

That being said, I never went there, so I really don't know, its just how I've percieved it.

shut up. there are two types of people who go to evergreen, those who are highly independant and self motivated and take full advantage of evergreens highly customizable schedule, and the slackers who go there because it's an easy place to get fucked up and skate by without really taking anything away from their college experience. there are my 2 cents. i'd look elsewhere in washington, like western or uw, seattle u is also a good option if you're looking for a private option.

But because Evergreen doesn't have grading standards, their job placement rate is also ridiculously low. There are a LOT of companies who simply won't even consider hiring people from Evergreen (or similar colleges).

Evergreen got number one on High Times top 10 counterculture schools a few years ago.

A few of my friends are freshman there. they like it, but again they say they get stoned and drunk every night.

If your looking for that kind of a self driven program in a smaller school setting, you might want to check out Fairhaven college here at WWU. I know a bunch of people who go to Fairhaven and i dont know anyone that doesnt like it.

my cousin is a freshman there this year and loves it. she's liberal, but def. not a hippie, and doesn't really do drugs, i don't think.

she's getting a lot out of it.

my friend goes there and basically hes a hippie now and hes been arrested 3 times for protesting things and they dont actually have majors and its a pre req to either be gay or have sex with chicks that have huge bushes.

nice! fairhaven is the most underrated part of western, and the dorms can be rad as well. here's a little known fact, if you get a room where the bathroom is shared between two rooms in between them, you have the perfect setup for beer pong/beruit. the big closet door can be easily unhung and put up in the bathroom on top of two of the wood chairs, and voila, beer pong table! you play from room to room, and if an RA knocks on the door, everyone shuts up and you just close the bathroom door or go to the other room. we play at least once a week, and we have never gotten caught, even with like 20 people in the two rooms. stack 6 regularly gets kegs into their bathrooms, and we just have a good time overall. this is important though, try to smoke in the dorms as little as possible because this gets you in trouble more than anything else. on the other hand we built a couple of huts in the arboretum this year and its a very chill place to smoke blunts. id stay away from blazing in the outback too, alot of people got caught there fall quarter.

that sounds like a sweet beer pong set up. I will probably be at a dorm on the ridge, minus alpha.

huts whoa, what are they made out of and where is the aurboreadom?

Is the out back the wooded trails by fairhaven?
