you really think Santa is 1663 years old? He became automated near the turn of the 20th century.
 
yeah, and if the thing would slide on the skis, the gifts couldn't fall out off the exit shaft since they have to come out underneath ... + the skis are pointed towards the gift-hatch so whatever gift falls out would fall out in front of the sled and the sled would crush them ....
