Ever flown standby?

I'm thinking about doing this over spring break to save some money, but I've never done it before. Will I actually save that much money, or is it just a hassle? How do I go about doing it?
 
ive flown standby my hole life.... sometimes it the shit.. you get first class and your like BALLLA and then some times your stuck in dalles for two day cause the fuckin mavirics are playing the blazers and all the flights are fucked....

what you really need to do.. is research all the flights to see what is avalbe and stuff. and alwasys have plan b
 
So just research what flights are leaving from where, then you just have to be lucky enough for a spot to open up? How much cheaper is a ticket this way?

 
yes.... you will save money.. but do your resarch.. try looking for early mornign or late nite flights.. they usaly have open seats
 
Spring Break is very busy time for the airlines, depends where you are how many airlines are there too. But dont try this in Canada cause

you might be at the airport for a week. They overbook too many flights here (Stand-by is a big gamble up here.

the only one they didn't get on was bankok to AUS
 
oh yeah...i got stand by business class allt he way to buenos aires.

and it can be a hassle, and if youre doing it over spring break when everyone else has vacation, its gonna be a pain in the ass and you most likely won't get on. I would just check the loads ahead of time and see what they're lookin' like and then go from there.
 
I don't get this...supposedly "standby" doesn't mean what it used to mean. I just checked with US Airways, and they said that you can't just go to the airport and get on a standby list for an empty seat on a flight. According to them, standby is only for people who already have a ticket and want to fly earlier the same day as their ticket.

Therefore, there's no way to save money by flying standby, because you have to buy a ticket first of all.

Can anyone confirm this? I'm trying to make plans for spring break, and I'm deciding whether I should just buy a ticket or try standby.

i do it all the time From Chicago to Denver, never had a problem, always end up in coach though
 
Standby is a fucking hassle. Sure we got hooked up on the price but it's not cool when you go to airport then have to go home because there's no seats or even worse sleep in SLC airport because their are also no seats and you don't live in utah. Anyways Flew standby once because Uncles a pilot and I will never make that mistake again. Although my bro did get First class to Hawaii so it all depends.
 
depends you check in at the front, they give u a pass through security, then you go to the plane and try to get on the flight, if you cant get on the first one you wait for the next one, but if you cant get one your SOL

anywhoo its cheaper
 
ha ha ha i got stuck in seattle for 2 days. if it works its dope shit. if it doesnt it sucks but hey its cheap
