I don't get this...supposedly "standby" doesn't mean what it used to mean. I just checked with US Airways, and they said that you can't just go to the airport and get on a standby list for an empty seat on a flight. According to them, standby is only for people who already have a ticket and want to fly earlier the same day as their ticket.
Therefore, there's no way to save money by flying standby, because you have to buy a ticket first of all.
Can anyone confirm this? I'm trying to make plans for spring break, and I'm deciding whether I should just buy a ticket or try standby.
