I just finalized a trip to Gerlos in Austria.Going end of February and i just wanted to know if any one has been here or other places close??

Wondering how the skiing is.. park, a lot of snow? back country, etc..

I've been to many places to ski, but no clue what to expect about Austria...

It's definitely on the list..The Austrians regard skiing as a national tradition and way of life...It's just a question of getting out there when it's good and deep..and where to stay for cheap.

went this summer to hinterux glacier. austria is awesome and the drinking age is 16 but they don't enforece it, so much better than 21.

the people are amazing, the girls are hot, and the food is the best ever. u will have a blast

if they have gotten new snow, dont touch the park. Austrians dont seem to track out pow as fast as americans do and you can have fresh runs all day. I skied in austria for the last 3 years, but dont know what mountain/village youre talking about. but deff forget about the park if they have new snow, you can slide a rail anywhere in the states

man i live here.. not exactly gerlos but krimml. 15 km away.

gerlos is extremly crowded of dutch poeple in the winter.. most of them rich poser kids, but there´re also some nice people around ;)

i tore my acl at gerlos´ park last week so i´m not able to show you the terrain but its just awesome if you´re lucky, because it needs pow ;)

watch this nimbus edit and you´ll be more than stoked on your upcoming trip :)

hope it works.

send me a pm if you want to know more.

My brother used to live in Innsbruck, I'll tell him about this thread.

When I went to visit him I skied mostly at a place called Nordpark which had one of the best jumps I've ever seen to date, I met 16 year old Russ Henshaw who was training on it at the time.

Mayrhofen is also pretty sick and is an enormous place. I don't know how close these will be to you but I recommend visiting them for at least a day.

You're gonna have a blast man, Austria is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been to hands down.

Vans Penken Park in Mayrhofen is world class. Such a sick park with small, medium and big line. It also offers lots of rails and boxes. One of the best experiences I have had on skis so far.

they should also have a dope setup as the european freeski open takes place there from 1/23-1/26

This did in fact get my very excited!!Sorry to hear about the ACL, wishing you a fast recovery.

Do these mountains get a lot of snow in general?

I just bought myself a pair of fat skis and i'm hoping ill be using them every day while im out there!!

i live in austria but i never heard of gerlos. but if its in zillertal you should get good snow better where i am. the snow won't be good to the end of february though. backcountry is tracked very fast especially from damn germans and stupid guys without the peeper shovel etc. but you should find some lines. have fun there

This is complete bullshit, please disregard it.

It can snow heavily any time from October to March, although it can also stay very dry. It's not possible to know already what the forecast for this Feb. looks like.

Don't worry about Germans, there are probably a lot fewer of them than the Austrians, and for the most part, all of them are nice anyway!

Awesome! good to hear.I jsut looked at the 7 day forecast and it says snow every day except one.

I'm jsut hoping it stays this way!!!

Europe is having a good snow year to date, and anyone who complains about an Austrian ski resort getting tracked out too fast has probably never skied in North America. There's usually plenty to go around.

Yeah i live in Austria... you need to hit up Saalbach/ Hinterglemm which has a small park but takes them so long to build but theres rollers from top of ski lift and you can use the park til 10pm or Kitzsteinhorn.. Austrian freeski open there at start of feb which is decent!!

Spent a week in Ischgl with a bunch of Pollocks a few years ago. Rode knee deep pow next to the groom the whole time. Everyone just looked at me like I was crazy.

Ya I've had some pretty great powder days in Innsbruck. It doesn't get tracked nearly as quickly, I was really surprised at how little the locals were getting after it.

Haven't heard of the place you're going, but I've skied a couple of times in Soll and the rest of the Skiwelt area when I was much younger, and I went to Saalbach last year for the british university champs. The nightpark is Saalbach is really nice and there's also the nitro park in Leogang just over the valley, which has the most ridiculous rail features I've ever seen, fuck knows what those shapers had been smoking. (If you go to Leogang, you MUST go to the massive lodge place for lunch that is along the ridge from the park, 5 euros for a whole chicken, and the best beer you will ever taste.)

The apres in Austria is easily the best in Europe as well, it's cheaper and the clubs are open til like 5 in the morning.

Hope you have a good trip man.

So i have gotten more information, i'll be staying in Krimml and skiing Zillertal Arena. I'm heading out Feb 15th, hoping for lots of snow. If people have recommendations for where to ski or what to do after skiing, let me know! Won't be there for very long so i want to take advantage of it!! Thanks
