Ever banged your pole into your face while landing?

lucky me- just got up to the park after lunch, and decided to go for a warm-up run on the medium line..first jump-straight air with a grab, going on to the second jump felling comfy enough for a 360- pullin the spin but on the landing i banged to pole grip into my face causing 2 cuts by my eye =\

anyone else had this happen to him?

I've done that. Hit my goggles and didn't do any damage to me luckily. Would have ended very poorly if I wasn't wearing them or it hit me in the nose/mouth.

Yes I've done that. I took a run through the park on a non-park day so had longer poles. Took a hip jump a bit wider and faster than intended - i.e. low, flatter landing - and smashed my face on my pole. Fortunately I was wearing goggles and they took it like a pornstar. 1 inch lower I'd have no nose, 2 inches and I'd have no teeth.

Everyone is right - SHORT POLES FOR PARK

A few years back I was at a mountain I've never been to before. Went into the park and hit the first kicker blind. Turns out the landing had a huge boarder trough and of course I landed right in it. Was coming out of a 3 and my right pole planted itself. My face whipped around right into the top of the grip. I was wearing sunglasses and the lens smashed into my right brow. Ended up getting four stitches and now I have a super thug lookin scar through my eyebrow. Haha.

Took a knee to the chin when I came up short on a table at Winter Park 2 weeks ago, still hasn't healed. take a look... totally sucks.

Hard to explain that one when you're at the office.

idk, i'm about 6'1" and have 44" poles, they're almost too short for me to use them, i'd rather have no poles at all than holding poles that i can't even plant without bending over..

I was skiing down a hill and swinging my pole, pulled it back in front of me, it stuck in the ground and hit me in the chest. fractured my ribs, I couldn't breathe and blacked out. Left on the hill for 20 minutes until I woke up beside a tree.

skiing switch and the pole drops just a bit and sticks into the snow. pole goes straight to ribs. poles get cut down within 24 hours.

well this one time i accidentally banged a girl with my pole, didn't mean to though. it was only supposed to be a night of cuddling and mild foreplay

I hit my face on my knee in the back country last season, knocked 4 teeth out, and broke the bone that holds my teeth in, not my jaw, but like the one above it. Never did get a name for it.

$6700 later, I'm skiing with a mouth guard whenever i click in.

It already hit my ribbs and literally broke them, luck'ly it didn't pierce my lungs.. But in the face never :p

I was riding sitting on the heels of my bindings and my pole clipped the ground and shot into my face. I had a bruise in the outline of my goggles on the left side of my face.

No but I’ve put my knee into my face...Came up short on a (roughly) 60 footer, doing a 7 in flat light at the North Face Ski Challenge Finals in Val Thorens

6 stitches and €160. Not the best day.

Yeah this happened to me too. Maybe a bit worse, my jaw was locked in the same place for 2 hours after it happened.

I definitely had trouble chewing the next day... shit sucks.

Overshooting would have been better, despite the fact I'm terrified by it.

I pole planted under my chin once. I was concussed prettybad. Then I cut my poles down out of paranoia

back in ski team i remember seeing a kid on my team spin a three off a kicker in to the pow. and he put his pole right into his nuts and broke the poile and ate shit....

pretty funny if you ask me

This happened to my friend but with the opposite side and it caused about a 2-3 inch gash in his stomach.

this happened to me at snow flex and i took the top of the pole to the eye and now have a nice scar from it...it bled forever when it happened

that's not too far from what happened to me.. i got a shallow cut under my eye and a little deeper one just aside from my eye

didn't happen to me, but my friend did a cannon rail and came off and pole-planted with the handle behind his nut sack

not my pole but my knee which cause a whole trough my lip and a chipped tooth, weirdest taste ever

one of the hidden edits in realtime is ahmet knocking a tooth out by punching himelf in the face with a pole. super funny.

Had some really dumb ones, I should really use shorter poles when I'm messing around.

Once went way too deep, decided to try and hip check it, somehow jammed one of my poles into the ground between my skis and nutted myself on it.

Another time, about to set a spin off a pretty steep windlip but instead I jammed my pole-tip into the lip then skied into the grip, hit me in the chest and just about dropped me. Stupid poles. I just feel like a total goober when I ski without them though...

I'll probably get flamed and down karma'd for this but I'll ask anyway since I didn't find it with the searchbar. What's the point of even having poles in the park? They don't touch the ground anyway, is it just so you can have something to hold onto to keep your hands in place and look good or is there something I'm missing?

Commence shitstorm

Most people grew up using poles when they learned skiing, so some of its a comfort thingI know that if I don't use poles I feel awkward as fuck

and you do use them a bit just not to much

consider yourself lucky. I was doing a butter 3 a few years back and my pole planted as my face came around and hit it. Punched myself with the end of the pole so hard. Busted out my bottom 4 and chipped my front 2.

someone find that video of the horrible one where the guy spun a 7 or something and took a pole to the eye socket on the landing

~Story Time~

I was sitting on the back of my skis going down the cat track and I got bored so I started to pretend to row a boat with my poles. My pole extended forwards and then it caught and hit me in the face. My oakleys exploded off of my face and I almost died. Luckily the goggles were not harmed.

Was bombing it down a ski route last year and using the piste marker poles as a sort of slalom when I hit a bump and got off-balance.. Pole went straight into my adams apple. Felt weird as fuck for couple days! I stopped using piste marker poles as a sort of slalom after that...
