Alright, so I picked up a helly hansen fissure jacket this summer for really cheap. Anyways I didn't know it had this stuff until I read it on the HH site. So I decided to see if it's actually any good, so I lay out the jacket on my bed and I made a little place for the water to sit and pour a bunch of water so that it was like a standing pool. I figured I would come up in like 15 minutes and look at it. But I forgot...and I came home today and it did not soak through at ALL, like the water was still sitting there.

its no problem to make shit fully waterproof. You inject it with rubbers and shit, and presto, you got waterproofing. The reason why most jackets are only sem-waterproof is to create better breathability. I'm guessin your jacket would NOT BE FUN if you start sweating at all. Normally the make it so jackets have a little bit of both - breathability and waterproofing

water proof breathable fabrics are miraculous... still not breathable enought for hiking but stll dope for skiing

event is really good shit. its probably the only real competetor to gore-tex. Thats sweet you picked up a high-qual jacket for cheap

Waterproof breatheable fabic works because it's 'holes' are too small for liquid water to go through, but big enough for water vapors to pass.

take a steam iron and hold it up next to the inside of the jacket. you'll see the steam pass right through, unlike gore-tex. you get superior breathability and awesome waterproofing. i think the jacket runs around $450 retail.

you can do that with gore tex and titanium. goetex xcr will last even longer. any good jacket can hold water. every one is just so used to crappy snowboard jackets. even when the water doesnt bead, it will still hold the water like that. people think the jacket isnt water proof any more but its not the outside layer that make s it waterproof.
