European resort for a skiing honeymoon?

so i'm getting married next week and talked my wife-to-be into a skiing honeymoon..it has to be in europe, since flights are a lot cheaper than flights to usa/canada.

preferably the resort should be high altitude, with a good park that would be beginner friendly for her, and some side country/backcountry would be good too...

so come on ns, share your wisdom

that's a dream honeymoon of mine. Saas - fee is nice, zermatt or pretty much anywhere in switzerland i'm guessing. have fun!

I would look into Austria, much better atmosphere than France, and cheaper than Switzerland. A good place could be the Zillertal valley, it's got Mayrhofen with prob one of Europes best parks, and Hintertux Glacier is close if it's early season or lacking snow. Plus it's got some nice spa type hotels that would be ideal for a honeymoon. I would fly into Innsbruck, rent a car, and then drive to your hotel. Then you have the freedom to hit up the whole valley by car, including Hintertux.

pretty much anywhere mid-size and up in europe is going to have enough sidecountry to keep you busy for the few hours you'd get off a day during a honeymoon ski. Honestly, I reckon you're gonna have to look more in to what the place is like in terms of good restaurants and being beautiful than what the park is like. NS may not be the place for that...

You'd struggle to go wrong in Zermatt though, it pretty much has everything. Decent park, tons of freeride, slopes for all levels. The runs back in to the resort can be a bit of a shitshow if your fiance is a real beginner though.

No, don't go to Meribel - unless you are millionaire... everyone's just showing off and the resort in itself isn't that good imo.

never go to any resort in the french alps. No atmosphere, mass tourism, ugly buildings and annoying french people. Austria (Arlberg, Zillertal,... ) or Switserland (Sankt Moritz, Davos,...)

That's not right.

For example Avoriaz is really chill.

thanks everybody...i just talked to some local tourism companies that have pretty sweet deals in Val Thorens which looks pretty good to me.. right now it looks like it's going to be either val thorens (best deal-value option), st. moritz, livigno, or laax..

I can allways find nice pictures too XD but really France is a bit cheaper than Austria and Switzerland but it's just not the same.

Okay, I respect your opinion, but I have been skiing France for a long time, and I still love it.

went there a lot: les arcs, courchevel, Chamonix, Morzine,... but olso went to resorts in Switzerland, austria and Sud-Tirol (Italy) so I could compare.

yeah, its rich as hell, so dont go if you dont have the cash.

however, if you dont think the resort is good, you either dont know how to ski, or dont know where to go.

Meribel alone is the shit, and add Courchevel and Val Thorens (all interconnected-3 Valleys-biggest skiable domain the world), its top notch.

So if you have some skrilla Meribel would be great.

Or, as stated, Zermatt/Saas Fee is dope too

This is true for every location mentioned in this thread. If you want somewhere with a nice atmosphere avoid all the big resorts completely.

this is actually not a bad idea. + it would be very easy to go to saas-fee or zermatt for a day from bettmeralp if you want a bigger area.

Boax is right though, if you want picturesque you want to avoid the big resorts, especially in france (generally).

Well, congrats, i guess you already went wherever, but i would have recommended Mottolino Livigno to you, there are tourists but it doesn't loose athmosphere, great skiing and cheap/tax-free on the top station you can get a good meal for 2 for the price of two cokes in switzerland.. also my best friends dad owns the place :D

So where did op end up going?

And to the person who said France is more expensive, get fucked. Austria is WAY cheaper than France, and to top that off, there's no Frenchmen!

personally i wouldn't opt for a french resort...

st anton arlberg would be one resort that comes to mind, or laax but seriously, the resort itself will be secondary, as long as you find a good hotel with a good suite and good accomodations and wellness and shit you'll have a good time!
