ERR 01: Communications between the camera and lens is faulty

This error message pops up 95% of the time when shooting with my Tokina 12-24mm lens. The only way to actually take pictures without this error is to only take the lens halfway on, i.e the contacts arent touching eachother, i.e no error message. This results in blurry photos.

Obviously i've tried to clean the contacts with no luck and frankly I'm out of ideas.

Anyone had similar issues before? How did you resolve this?

did you clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol?

if that still doesnt work, get a leica.

I got this using an unchipped adapter. I solved it by filing it down. There is part of the mount that triggers the AF actuation pin, and the camera doesn't like it when it is pressed but there are not contacts. chipped adapter or shaved adapter=problem solved. I would try cleaning the contacts first, then try to google things specific to only the lens or only the camera and cross reference from there if you can. This is what I did, and it was hard to find much, but there is a lot out there

I found out its the issue is with the Tokina lens by trying the camera out with another lens.

Could you be more spesific on what exactly i have to do? File down the contacts?

if you are looking at the lens from the front, like to take a selfie or something haha, the contact is around 10 o clock. I filed down the protrusion on the mount. I went to about a quarter inch from the top corner, and then made it smooth. If I had cut it, it would be a triangle about a quarter inch on the long side and the height of the mount on the other. Now it works great. As a side note, this was to use an m42 adapter on a 1d mark ii n, and I have heard specifics about using vintage lenses with the 1d series. The issue however, is the camera, because it does it with every lens. I would do a little more research before filing the mount, but if it comes to that, I can post pictures.

Whatever you do, don't file the fucking contacts, stick a piece of paper in there instead or you'll kill the resale value.

Resale value is killed already. It doesn't shoot man. It's a useless fucking lens, and i won't get any money off of it unless i sell it to some stupid kid on here who doesnt know anything about cameras/lenses, like me. Yeah i bought the lens off of NS. First picture was an error message, seller had 'never gotten that issue before man'. sucks cause i paid $700 for the camera+broken lens combo.
