Environmental Studies Research project

I live on the east coast and was wondering what a good environmental studies research project would be for my environmental class? any ideas?

What level of education are we talking here? High school? Undergrad? Grad? Does it have to be specific to the East Coast or is that your personal preference?

go to a local dam or reservoir and measure the temperature of the tributary, measure the temperature of the dam or reservoir, then measure the temperature of the discharged water. Then get a jar and collect water from above the reservoir and just below where the water is discharged. Let the sediments fall to the bottom. compare and analyze these results to find out what impacts dams and reservoirs have on the local ecology.

i wrote a enviro paper comparing the utilities/build cost of an average home vs. a self sustaining off the grid home. it was interesting to research. mini hydro electric turbines turned out to be the best way to generate electricity.

I did this study for my AP Enivronmental Science class senior year. I studied the impact of a ski resort on surrounding water systems. I collected data about water quality from three different sites. One was the snowmaking pond, one was a river which runs right below the resort, and the third site was a major wetland across the interstate from the resort. The data was collected before and after the ski season. I wanted to see if the run off from the ski runs effected the surrounding water and if it did I would be able to see if it was effecting something as far away as the wetland. This was an easy thing to reseach because it was something which interested me.

My recommendation is just do something that interests you. Think of something you like doing and then look at how it impacts or could impact the environment. Hope my example helps!
