English Premier League 2014-2015

i just don't like to see the Man City/Yankees mentality of buying championships. It's just not fun...

It's not like they're washed up players...i mean, they're both going to the world cup

Obviously they need players, but idk it just seems stupid. But that's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.

While I overall agree, it's not like lampard is coming from a club with a rich history of self sufficiency. Chelsea is the original billionaire toy club

It is the MLS. Its a retirement home that you get paid nicely to hang out at. Less wear and tear, easier play, no English girls, and they get to become faces of American soccer.

I'm all for bigger names going to the MLS...even if they are old and past their prime it's definitely a start to make that league less of a joke and will surely bring some quality into the mix.

i wished lampard would have stayed at Chelsea and got his coaching badges. i fell we need player like him around the club to help the youth and to provide some satiability. similar to the class of 92 at united. scholes, nevile, and giggs all stayed there to the end and are still involved in the club

If David Villa ends up going to NYC, I think that would be a pretty good indicator that the league is on the upswing.

So I've been a fan of the game my whole life, played since I was 5 and plan to continue playing. Problem is I have never followed football because I live in the US and well, its never covered here. Starting to be shown a bit more and I want to start following the EPL. Problem is I have no dog in the fight, no team I care about.

Help me find a team! Not looking for a team that has a huge wallet and just buys everyone or a team that everyone loves. I wanna follow a team that is on the rise. Any suggestions?

Pick a team that plays the way you like. Or if you have a favorite player support their club. For me I always loved watching Thierry Henry and zidane growing up so I starting supporting arsenal because of Henry. Plus they played some magical football back in the day. Even this year at the beginning of the season I think they were the most entertaining team in the league until Liverpool came on. And zidane/henry/bergkamp are my favorite players so I supported clubs they played for. Real for zidane. Even though I don't like many players on real today they play exciting football

ehh...i think it just means he's getting paid out the ass. The reason i hate that these 2 players are coming is because they're both still capable of competing in Europe. I don't think it's going to help the league that much, but who knows. I feel like there aren't enough teams that have the funds to compete with these signings. I'm completely guessing i have no idea what the financial situations of MLS teams are.

It's no fun if someone tells you who to support! Make that decision on your own.

Not looking for someone to tell me who to support, but a suggestion isnt a bad idea. Right now I like Bale, but I hate Ronaldo (I know they're not EPL).

Problem with finding a team that fits how I play, I'm a keeper. But I like an aggressive team who attacks and takes risks. I don't mind getting the in a position where my defense needs me to come up big because we tried to push for a goal.

Then support arsenal or Liverpool. Both teams have a tendency to attack and get scored on a lot. Szczesny had the most shutouts in the EPL I'm pretty sure. Either him or peter.

Liverpool or Everton are some good starts.

NBCSports has the rights to the entire EPL season so just start watching once the season starts!

Just watch games and you will become fond of one side or another for whatever reason. If you truly appreciate the game, you don't need a team to root for, although it certainly can make it more fun.

For the sake of your health, I recommend a nice midtable club. Newcastle, Swansea, or someone like stoke.

Those are teams that are expected to finish between 6th and 17th. There's drama and excitement, but no real heartbreak because your expectations are low.

Honestly though...watch a bunch of games. Pick a jersey you like, a coach with a nice name...any reason, really. It's not really something you just pick.

Just be a PSG bandwagoner because: ZLATAN!

Enjoy these 13 minutes of Zlatan scoring ridiculous goals:

Just start watching games. After a few you will find yourself pulling more for the same few teams.

Could be any number of reasons, they have a player you really like to watch, you like their style of play, their boots match your eyes, any fucking reason, it will come to you.

Random question, but has anybody tried Pantofola D'Oro boots? There's really nowhere around here to try them on, but they look pretty incredible.

If there mostly gaudy sneaker line is anything to go for, they fit godly.

According to my football friend across the room, they are simple no-fuss shoes with excellent construction and leather, no fancy marketing upgrades that should supposedly enhance your game, just solid, well-fitting kicks that ooze quality.

I think he'll be an upgrade for sure from what they have, but I don't think he will ever have a year nearly as successful as this past one.

Curious to see who Atletico's new striker will be and if they follow suit I'm becoming a star

Agreed. Rumors have it Soldado could return to Spain. Lukaku was rumored to be a trade chip in the deal but it does not look like that anymore

Remy deal apparently is nearing completion for Arsenal and rumors Arsene in interested in Balotelli also? What an attack force that would be as long as Arsene can keep Mario in check.

13018434:Klazo said:
Remy is supposedly close to signing with just about every team on the planet according to rumours.

But Arsenal makes the most sense. They shoulda signed him before the beginning of last season really...I dunno who I would rather between him and Balotelli if it came to that though. Balotelli has enormous potential but is more of a gamble than Remy certainly.

Curious to see where Cesc goes.

what's interesting to me is the supposed clause that arsenal get first refusal. that could be huge. I'd love for arsenal to get him back but just don't see it happening.

Arsene Wenger is not the type to spend that type of money just to prevent someone else from getting him.

I would prefer him over Arteta as a holding midfielder, maybe a little Yaya Toure-esk? He could sit back and just attack when he felt was right but I don't think that is really his game and with nowhere else for him to play in the midfield it seems like a waste of a transfer.

the thing is arsenal don't need cesc they have a load of attacking midfielders. okay there not all up to his standard but what they really need is a big dirty solid DM that should be there priority. then a good striker. if they get them then they can start to challenge and be real contenders.

Plethora of transfer news

Emre Can to Liverpool-https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/premier-league-liverpool-agree-deal-sign-emre-can-100639192--sow.html

Villa loan to the A-League side Melbourne City-https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/football-villa-agrees-melbourne-city-move-055020141--sow.html I figured he would go on loan to MCFC for a bit considering their allegiance with NYCFC at least for training and the occasional FA Cup game.

Other news:

Messi is estimated to be worth double Cristiano Ronaldo. I do not know how they came up with these numbers, but I think it is too high, especially after Messi's season this year. I would put it at 20-40 million more. http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/pdf/ar2014_excerpt.pdf

Apparently Lukaku officially has said he wants out. Hope they let him go to Everton, but I bet someone with deeper pockets will snatch him up.

I don't blame him. Year after year chelsea spend tens of millions on strikers who are flops and ignore Lukaku, a young guy who's proven he can score in the prem. He scored more goals for Everton last season than anyone on Chelsea, it's ridiculous that they are going to spend so much on Costa and who knows who else when they can just bring him back for free. He scored 15 with Everton last year, who are by no means a bad team obviously, but think what he could do with service from Hazard, Schurrle, Oscar, and co...

Fabregas to Chelsea.... that one hurts.

however it will be interesting to see how mourinho uses a creative midfielder like him. Not the type of player you would usually see at Chelsea.

Yeah, it sucks.

Huh? Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle, and Willian aren't creative midfielders?

they are, but I don't see them as being on the same level as fabregas. Arsenal were built around just him creating chances for years. I think it might take him a bit to adjust back to the EPL though

True, I guess. Hazard creates chances in other ways, but I think he's close to Fabregas at least. It's odd because his justification for leaving is saying that he has unfinished business in the EPL, but you'd think that business would be with Arsenal, not Chelsea. Maybe Arsenal made just no effort to buy him?

He said on twitter that woolwich had the first chance but didn't want him back.

Damn. Would have loved to see him back at Arsenal. I wonder if it was just a financial thing or if they had other reasons to not get him back. Arteta is getting old, and Ramsey was great last season when he played, but he always seems to get hurt. It's not like Arsenal wouldn't benefit from having Cesc back on the team.

Already vines of Arsenal supporters burning his jersey lol. Mourinho and Chelsea will surely ruin Fabregas like they ruined Torres. Arsenal coulda bought him to prevent him to go to other teams ala Chelsea-esk but that isn't their style and midfielders are the last area where we need help.

It is what it is, I ain't too worried. Ozil is gonna come on strong next year. I feeeeel it.

13028500:Klazo said:
Why burn his jersey now and not 3 years ago when he bailed on you for a pay cut?

When he left Arsenal, he did it to join his boyhood club while swearing he wouldn't leave Spain unless it was to Arsenal again. And to the fans, leaving for a spanish giant like Barca makes sense for a footballer and leaves no real connections to Arsenal.

Then he not only leaves Barca but goes to a London rival. Arsenal had first word if they wanted him back which they ultimately turned down but people are upset with how he went against his word and joined a team he would have loathed years ago playing for Arsenal.

Don't think Arsenal fans should be getting that upset at him for going to Chelsea after asking Arsenal first if they wanted him back and they said no. What, he's supposed to stay unhappy at Barca year after year because Arsenal says they don't want to pay for him to come back? Besides, think how it must feel to be Cesc and ask Arsenal, a club he clearly loves, if they want him back, only for them to say "Meh, we'll pass." Has to sting for him as well to get rejected by Arsenal like that.

This. Wenger blowing it again in a transfer window. I have the upmost respect for what he did at the beginning of his time at Arsenal, and even in keeping the team in the top 4 while a new stadium was built. But allowing chelsea to pick up Fabregas and letting Sagna go to city for free shows how naive he has become. Part of the football transfer market these days is not letting your rivals strengthen.

Surely his reasoning for the Fabregas thing is that we have strength in depth in midfield but the fact is, those players aren't as good as Fabregas. Ozil on his day is, Wilshire can be but has serious injury problems. Arteta is aging, as is Rosicky. It just makes no sense that for £25 or so million (a profit of £10m or so) you wouldn't bring a legend and a world class player back to the club.

He could prove me wrong and bring in world class talent in more vital positions but I won't be holding my breath.

yah he really impressed me too, although iv always liked the kid. no harm giving him time in preseason tune up matches either. definitely deserves it, especially if he can keep up his good play in the wc.
